This may sound real stupid but i just want to get my facts strait. moved to new place had to store my 27" vga showcase cabinet in an old shed. i used to play this cabinet almost a decade ago when it was downtown and i found it at a local residents house on craigslist. the image was extremely dark now and also seemed squished horizontally. there is a lot of dust/dirt inside this cab but it all seemed fine until now. i turned the knob on my flyback until the image came in a lot brighter then i found out that adjusting the sub width dial on the pcb/chassis might increase my screen size. i had to max it out the sub width but it seemed to fix the aspect. the next day it was raining like crazy. i live quite close to the beach and a park here and when it rains it pours. i turned on the machine to check the image again and work on the controls and i heard loud snapping coming from the back of the monitor. on further inspection i can see the anode cap of the flyback arcing like crazy. it looks like there may be condensation on the tube. after leaving a heater in shed for a few hours came back and it seems to be no better. ive decided to wait for the neighborhood to dry out a little more before working on it again. not sure if its because of my adjustments or if condensation got under the anode cap. never seen this before. you can literally see the arcing spitting out from the rim of the anode cap. should i just discharge, remove anode and clean it off? any other precautions i should take here? i know how to do it safely btw. i have some speaker wires soldered to gator clips and a long screwdriver. ive discharged an old 17" before so i should be able to do it safely. can anyone share any similar stories? thanks.
