Coin Slot to work with Ipac2?
« on: March 10, 2013, 07:00:40 pm »
I found the switch on my coin slot in my Dig Dug Cabinet which "should" trigger the coin insert for my front end.  I use WinPac to configure the IPAC2 and I can see the switches seem to communicate with the IPAC and no errors on the card.  If I put the wire to the always closed switch(I did this for a test) and see it does light up inside of WinPAC.  I attach to the other prong like the button switches but I honestly have no idea where the ground goes and I think that is where the issues lies.  Someone hand wrote a "G" on the frame right below the switch I am using but it does not have the extra prong I see with the micro switches I use for the buttons.  Not sure if anyone has any info or if you need to see a pic.

Thanks,
Rich

Here Are the pictures.

1st Pic is full shot of two slot coin
2nd Pic side view of where I have my cable running to the IPAC2
3rd Pic is a 3/4 shot a little closer in showing the "G" I mentioned above.

You have your wires hooked up to electromagnets, not the coin switches which are blue and on the bottom of your assemblies... Wire those switches up just like your buttons, COM to IPAC ground, and NO to your desired IPAC input.

LOL - I saw the copper coil or something near these and wondered what the heck these things were.  LOL  The is a little switch just below the prongs I am using which made me think this had to be it.  I thought the blue ones were for a counter.  :)  Thanks I will give it a whirl tonight.

SIDE NOTE:  I have a LEDPAC64...can I run the lights from the LEDs in the coin slot to that the same way I will do my single color LEDs?  I have not received my cabling yet but I am just curious
thanks,
Rich

Good to hear! I used 5V LED bulbs with a PACLED64 for my reject buttons in the Two-Headed Beast. Check out posts 175 and 181 on page 5 of my build thread in my signature.

I connected my LEDs up like the normal buttons to the IPAC but they are not powering on...good chance the bulb is burnt out I guess.  Need to order some.  Referring to your post you mentioned.  thanks!

That's because an IPAC can't power LEDs. You need either: A) An LED controller such as a PACLED64 or LEDWiz in combination with software such as LEDBlinky to control your LEDs however you want; or B) Wire your LEDs to the appropriate voltage on your power supply to have them always on when the machine is on.

Verify your wiring is correct: http://ultimarc.com/pacled64.html

And the PACLED64 needs to be connected to your power supply in addition to a USB port. Make sure you've got it connected to the appropriate voltage on your power supply (red wire if using 5V LEDs, yellow wire if using 12V LEDs).

Yeah I have 13 LED buttons already wired and working on the board..thought the LEDs in the coin return might be different.

My new Bulbs came in for the "LEDs" in the coin slots and I cannot get either ones to light.  I guess I'll recheck my cabling from the PACLED to the LEDs.  All other 13 lights work fine.  Is there anything else I could be missing.  I assume they hook up just like the push buttons do, right?

Not at the moment but they take the 555 Bulb.  Simple two prong casing.  But I can take a picture today or tomorrow and post it.

Take the bulbs out, turn them 180 degrees, and reinstall.

That did not help as they can only be inserted in one way.  Here are some pictures.

Even though this is a new bulb there appears to be some sticky residue on the edges of the bulb now, it seems higher up on the plastic casing but I wonder if something is gucked up inside the contacts...but it happens on both sockets or whatever you call them.  I also open up my cab and checked wiring and also tested with a known good ground/cable to PACLED that I use for my "Start" button and the LED still would not light.

That's not an LED bulb, that's an incandescent bulb. LED controllers can't light incandescent bulbs.

There are plenty of 555 LED bulbs.  Mostly geared towards pinball but they're the same 555 type you are looking at here.

I would suggest either PinballLife.com or PinballBulbs.com.  I have used both and recommend either.

So this bulb will work with the bulb socket I have I took a picture of?

Wait re-read this post...I think I just need to buy the damn bulbs  :)
Ordered from Paradise Arcade.

Posted this earlier today
Been ages since I worked on the Cab(just been playing) and I want to get those lights working.  But before I order I have a really dumb question.  If the IPAC will not power the bulbs how do I get power to the bulbs if there is no external power going into the until any longer.  I gutted it and installed a PC.
thanks,
Rich
