Sony pvm crt monitor, one problem
« on: March 01, 2013, 07:48:04 pm »
Hello,

Just got this relatively inexpensive crt. Have one problem with it though:

As the pictures are showing theres like three color horizontal lines running through the screen. I can 'hide' by using the overscan button on the front panel but then the image gets cuts off. Anyone know what is the problem with it?

Generally, I would recommend a cap kit for any monitor purchased that is not new, and does not obviously have new caps.

MANY problems are solved by installing new capacitors.

Have you tried this monitor with different video cards or consoles?  Have you tried different games? Those lines look like a signal anomaly.  Are they there when you use the composite or s-video inputs? There may be nothing wrong with your monitor.

Additionally, the overscan should be turned on in normal circumstances.  Shrinking the raster to fit within the viewable area is for production work.   It could introduce glitches in the video for things that aren't designed to be played like that.  If you turn overscan ON, and shrink the video back to fit the screen, does it still show the lines?

Otherwise, that looks like there might be something wrong with the video processor.  Not easy to fix.

Jack-
(Sorry to derail) Have you heard of losing one color with a RGB input?

You probably have some loose connections.  Try jiggling each connector around while the video is running and see if it changes anything.

I have checked all connections on the board with no luck. Is it possible a cord inside the monitor case was pulled?
