Software Hyperspin or Mala?
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:40:39 pm »
From what I read these are the leading two frontends: Hyperspin and Mala.

Which is better? Which is easier to install?

Is there any others I should consider?

 ???

Mala is INSANELY easy to install and configure and very customizable. You can have a very nice and very personal Mala front end if you put the effort and imagination into it. And it runs on MOST pcs without a problem.

Hyperspin has much higher requirements as far hardware and is not as customizable. It's also much harder to install and configure. Most people will agree that Hyperspin looks fantastic and is the nicest looking Frontend out there, so the extra work MAY be worth it to you.

Maximus Arcade is another front end a lot of people here on this forum use and enjoy. If memory serves me that particular front end will NOT work for console emulation, but I could be wrong. It's very nice looking, I would say it's in between Hyperspin and Mala as far as looks. I heard it's pretty customizable, but I doubt it's as customizable as Mala, but I could be wrong. To purchase this front end it will run you around 25 dollars.

All three are good choices.
If you are looking for easy configure and a highly customizable front end than go with Mala. If your looking for a beefier front end with higher requirements than go with Hyperspin. If you want something in between than go with Maximus.

If you want some good examples of how these front ends look so a search on YouTube.

Hope this helped a little.

Personally I prefer MaLa and have used this for a number of years not, HS looks nice but I just don't think it works that well IMO.

I love MaLa's versatility regarding UI and Plugins.

I tried both, but in the end I didn't have a choice as Hyperspin didn't run well on my (poor) PC. Mala needs a lot less juice...

Mala was easier to configure too. Hyperspin wasn't difficult but I did find it harder to get away from a generic/default setup. I was impressed on YouTube with Hyperspin before realising many didn't really differ from the default.

I spent a lot of early time on AtomicFE too. I got it running well, but it took a lot of work/understanding. That could be that it was the first I tried as much as anything though (and the French (or is it German) instructions I often came across.
