Dig Dug - first power up - should I?
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:28:54 pm »

Just picked this up - it was free - but still not sure [if] I should take on this project....  as you can see from the youtube vid, the first power up just shows scrolling 7s across the screen.  I see the one player led light up, and the system boards red led also lights up.  Other than that I have nothing to report.
My question is - which way to turn?  What am I looking at: time, money, payoff.

Any feedback would be great.

I suggest reading this thread over on KLOV:  A Cautionary Tale.

Looks like a Kangaroo cab.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Did you ever decide anything?

I can't resist...  I have it all stripped out of the cab and laying on my desk.  G07 rebuild kit, and AC rebuild kit ordered from Bob, also some new 80s...  who knows what's wrong with this machine.  Start at the power supply, and finish at the monitor.
I'll keep you'all posted as I go along.

Good man.  The cautionary tale didn't scare you off.  Looking forward to the story on this cab!

Definitely gonna subscribe to this thread. I love Dig dug. I'd love to come across one of these cabinets to fix up. I'd need a better place to work on them though.

FYI ~ I had to get a known working PCB board to get this baby to run.  I've been playing it solid since March!!!
Love this game.

Things that need to be done:
1: rebuild G07 (starting to hiss)
2. Rebuild ARII
3. replace bezel
4. strip wood back to artwork (it was spray painted over)
5. rebuild/tweek coin op
6. install (find) reset sw. so I don't need quaters
