Thrustmaster Charger and Mame?
« on: November 04, 2003, 08:13:07 pm »
I have a Thrustmaster Charger and was wondering if anyone has knows how to get it to work with MAME.  I am just starting down the MAME path and have the Thrustmaster driver installed.  It works in other games but would love to play Pole Position with a real racing wheel.

If this doesn't work, does anyone know of any other wheels that work with MAME?  I saw a couple of posts on here about the Microsoft Sidewinder but didn't see any options for that in the MAME software.

I just ordered a Hanaho HotRod but still want to get a trackball and racing wheel.

Thanks for the help.

Forgive me for asking but running Mame on what operating system?
If you are running it on windows, I would suggest editting the Mame.ini file and changing "joystick                0" to "joystick                1".  If you don't have a mame.ini file, please read the docs on how to create one.

Right now I'm running under Windows XP but plan to build out a 1.3Ghz Athlon with Windows 98.  I'll look for the setting in the .ini file.

Thanks.

I think its worth mentioning that Pole Postition (arcade) used an optics-based 360degree steering wheel (effectively a big spinner).

All PC wheels are ~270 degree, and pot based (ie you can't spin the wheel all the way round).  I suspect this will be OK for PolePos, since you don't really spin the wheel loads, but if you plan to play other 360deg wheel games (Super Sprint, Super Off-Road etc.), then a PC wheel might not be the best way to go...it IS a good way to go for OutRun etc. tho ;)
