Cool Yamaha music software
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:07:30 pm »

A friend showed me some Youtube clips the other day. Bloody fascinating piece of software. Here's an example

Ok, for those that haven't heard of it, can you tell why it might be remarkable? Without googling?

Ok, so Yamaha have developed this complete music software package. Guitars, drums etc. Big deal, right? They've had synth guitars since the seventies. Well, also bundled in the package is the animation software that made this video clip. Well, that's kinda cool I suppose. The clincher though, is that the music software also does the VOICE! So you type in your lyrics and melody, and it sings it! The software is called Vocaloid.  Bloody awesome! Been around about four years I believe, doesn't seem to have caught on in the West much. And another step closer to getting rid of A-hole actors who command 50 million bucks a movie :duckhunt

Love the near-end booty shot.

There's so much software out there. Their commonality to me seems that they're 'piano roll' UI'd. Since you can get VSTs all over the place, many for free, I don't know why one program would be more desirable over another....um, except if you want a hentai version.....

And, uh, how can those who haven't heard of this kit tell you anything about it?.......

Because I wanted to see if anyone who listened to it had cottoned on to the fact that it's basically not a human voice. That's how guessing games work, if they know the answer, what's to guess?  ;)

Please don't tell me that's...

The software is called Vocaloid. :duckhunt

Thought so. Honestly wouldn't recommend delving too much deeper there with the creepy fanbase for it.

That's the case with the fan-base of pretty much all things Japanese  ;D  I'm more interested in the technology...

I could tell 3 words in that it was synthesized voice. Sounded too much like Hatsune Miku, though a bit better.
NO MORE!!

Well, it turns out that Hatsune Miku uses this technology. Obviously you are already familiar with this technology. It's all new to me. If you had never heard this stuff, you wouldn't have guessed it was synthesised, would you? You might think the singer was doing a 'Cher', but that it was a real singer.

yes you are correct about that. This vocaloid sounds 1000x better than all the auto-tuned crap they play on pop radio.
NO MORE!!
