Monitor Problem Capcom XMen Vs SF Stand Up
« on: January 06, 2013, 02:52:01 pm »
So a few months back my monitor starting acting up. The sides of the picture would get wiggly vertically. Now when I power up the machine the monitor squeals horribly and there is no picture. I can hear the game sounds, and I can work the controls to progress through game menus so it seems isolated to just the monitor. I have zero experience with monitors and this is only my second stand up. This is home use set to free play for me and my friends to enjoy. I have no problem swapping out boards and such in computers, and I can change alternators, radiators, and water pumps in cars. I have the feeling I will need a new monitor. I need advice and hopefully instructions on what I need to get/do. Any help is appreciated, and I am sure I haven't given enough information so I would be happy to answer any follow ups!  Thanks!!!!

Hi there, one of the first things that you will have to do in order for people to be able to help you is going to be figuring out what monitor you have. You should let people know any markings or labels, make or model you can identify on the monitor chasis/ frame. A picture would also be a big help as well just to make sure the monitor is properly identified. Then you can start the fun troubleshooting  >:D

There is a very good chance that you will not need a new monitor... but there is also a very good chance that something will have to be repaired on the one you currently have by the sounds of it.

I figured I didn't give enough info! Ok this is also very embarrassing but I don't know how to get to the back of the monitor without pulling the whole thing out. My cabinet doesn't seem to have rear access unless it is some kind of voodoo magic. So I shined a flashlight into the back vent grate and this is what I saw on the label- Hitachi Type A68KSA30X. Pics of front with joystick panel release and glass removed and then a picture of the back. Maybe some hints on how to get into this cabinet? :-)

So the number Hitachi Type A68KSA30X is going to be the tube model number. There should be markings on the electronics portion of the monitor as well and those will be important to figure out. I probably won't be able to help you fix the problem but I know people smarter than me will want to know that sort of stuff

Looks like there is a break in the back of the cabinet so it must come apart somehow? Screwed in? Hinges? locks?

Here is a pic of the monitor controls. Looking inside at the construction of the cabinet it looks pretty solid and unbreachable. Like the Ft. Knox of arcade cabinets. I suppose I will have to pull the monitor from the front but I will have to get some hired muscle over here!

:laugh2: There must be a way. If you do pull the monitor, make sure everything is unplugged (not just the power into the cabinet but the cables going to and from the monitor). Be careful what you touch, there are some spots on crt monitors that can give a good electrical shock if your not careful. You should watch a couple youtube videos on how to discharge a crt, it's easy but will save you getting a shock. With that being said if your comfortable with pulling out the monitor it wouldn't be a bad idea because it will be much easier to identify, and ultimately repair.

Your monitor chasis may be a nanao ms9

Edit: I snapped a picture of one of my ms9 chassis if you want to compare it to yours. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CH_Dich6dSOtu-5nQzWG4HONpK-vfcPd3ychpcHrbbw?feat=directlink

Sure looks like there's a door/removable panel on the back, to me... Is the picture playing tricks?

It looks like it but I can't seem to find a way to get it off. I am attaching pics of the inside looking down from the coin door, and several of the outside. The only external screws of any kind are around the power supply.
