GroovyMame and HD LED monitor
« on: December 23, 2012, 01:07:25 am »
I am using groovymame64_0147u3.014.exe for the first time because I updated my monitor to a 27 inch hd 1920x1080 and of course it only does 60 hertz where my old monitor did a refresh rate of 75 hertz at 1440 x 900 so I am trying this out and works and all but when I launch a game it gives me a dialog box saying SwitchRes: Could not find a video mode that meets your specs. I have to click on OK and it will work. My question is how can I fix this so it doesn't happen every time I launch a game.

Thanks

Hi joe35car,

You simply need to set the -monitor option as 'lcd', by default it's 'generic_15'. This option is in the custom mame.ini created by groovyMAME, by running:

groovymame.exe -cc
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

One more question I am using Mala as my front-end and when I try to configure it pointing to the new groovymame exe it tells me it (unable to get the file version). I hit OK in the box and it works but when a new version comes out I won't be able to refresh my game list? If I can get this to work I am hooked on this version of mame. Also how often do new releases come out? Does it keep up with regular mame?

Thanks for all your help and time.

Hi joe35car,

The issue is, I decided to add a new line for 'credits', that's prompted to the console when you lauch GM, and it turns out that many frontends are picking the version of MAME from a fixed position in the text that MAME prompts so I screwed this unfortunately. This was new in this version, and is going to get fixed for the next release. If you have compiling skills you can fix it yourself, otherwise please wait for the next release. There's at least one release per official MAME version, sometimes more in between if important 'u' intermediate updates are released and we have time for that.

OK thank you for the explanation and this alternative mame build you provide for everyone.  :applaud:

One more question I was going to play turbo in mame and the game seems stretched. Even worse when I have it rotated so it plays vertically on my monitor. This doesn't happen when using official mame 147u4.

Thanks

edit: never mind I believe it's a bug the screen is to large.  http://mametesters.org/view.php?id=5092
