sdlmame doesn't save controls

Hi there,

my sdlmame doesn't save the controls. I can change them using tab and they work fine...
until I close sdlmame using Escape and restart it, all controls are standard again.
Where does mame save them? ~/.mame belongs to the user and he has the rights to read
write and execute everything in there. So is it somewhere else?

After copying the .mame-folder from another acount and changing the rights to what they have been before (chowning to the right user), it works. I don't have a ---smurfing--- clue why it didn't before.
