led 26" - colors appear slightly off
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:54:48 am »
Hi all, long time lurker, love the forums!
I built a cab using an old laptop and a westinghouse 26" led for the monitor to make the cabinet slim.  Everything is working great, but it appears the colors seem washed out or not as rich and bright as the pictures you see in mamedb or on youtube videos.   I did some searching but just can't quite find the same kind of case.

I have the monitor connected via VGA, running 1366x768 60khz, which is native size, but can't get the colors right.

For example, in donkey kong jr, the pads are a more yellowish lime color green, instead of a rich, full green.  Contrast and black levels seem fine and are black.

Anyone have any ideas on things to try to remedy this?

Thanks all!

Thanks for the reply.

When i do that, it just ends up looking like a richer lime green color and over-exposed.  To me, it seems like the color of those pads has too much yellow in it, not enough blue for the green color, its a totally different color.  I will try to get a picture tonight.

Well, maybe my problem is "user error".  When I take a picture of it, it looks right, my monitor looks much more light green.  Maybe the issue is seeing it on video vs live?  Cameras typically capture less light (and look darker) then real life, maybe its a monitor brightness issue?  Anyone experience anything like that or recommend brightness settings?
