Anybody get GensFE to run in GameLauncher?
« on: October 31, 2003, 11:18:01 am »
Hello all!   I finally got Mame working with the Game Launcher front end and I love it!  Now I'm trying to get my Genesis emulator, GensFE, to work.  I got it to list all my games in the menu, but when I try to launch a game, the screen flickers and pauses for a second, then goes right back to the GLauner menu.  I'm sure it's some little setting I have wrong.  Any suggestions??

I'm at work, so I don't have the cfg at the moment.  Can someone give me an idea of how to set it up successfully?  I was wondering if the rom names were the problem.  They have long, funky names like Sonic (U) [h1].zip.  Would that be a problem?  Also GensFE is a windows program.  Will it be able to launch and load a rom through a command line action?

those rom names are a major problem! put glaunch into debug mode from cfg file and try to run this is best way to figure out what is going on...

I tried the debug mode and it kept saying "bad command or file name" (or something close to that!).  So should I go and rename all my roms to something like sonic.zip?

Well actually last night I goofed around with it and got GL to launch GensFE......but, it was in the background!  I would launch the game out of GL and the sreen would flicker then go back to the GL list.  But then the music from the sega game would come on.  Then I hit "esc" to close GL and there was GensFE running.  So I guess I solved one problem by creating a new one!  I'm good at that!  Any idea how to correct this?  Also it was in a small window.  Is there a command I need to giveGensFE to launch full screen?

This is big problem with GameLauncher. It happens with many other programs too. The focus is wrong. If you turn debugging on, the focus works better, but it's a pain in the butt to have to use the debugging step by step method. The developer doesn't seem to update it, so we are out of luck I'm afraid.

So is it any easier to set up different frontends, say MameWAH, for these other emulators and pc games?  I just see so many people on these boards asking for MameWAH help.  I figured it was a pain in the butt!  I had no problems with GameLauncher when setting up my Mame games, it's the other stuff that's giving me problems.  I also really like the simple looks of GL.

No, MameWAH is not simple to set up. It's more difficult that GL. I agree with you about the beautiful interface of GL. I love it as well. Mouse control was awesome as well.  I was able to have it use my spinner. That is a great feature.

Well, I'm just going to bite the bullet and try some other frontends.  Thanks to those who tried to help!

I had GL run a pause command after it launches Gens.  You just have to "press any key" after you exit the emulator to get back to the FE.  It will sit at a black screen until you do.  I don't even notice it anymore. I can send you my config if you would like.  Let me know.

I've been trying out MameWAH and I've had pretty good luck so far.  I've got it running my mame games and my GensFE is working too.  I haven't tried setting it up to launch any of my pc games yet, but I found a previous post on here that tells how to do that.  If you'd like to email me that cfg, I'll hold on to it in case I decide to go back and try GL.  Thanks!
