Hey guys!
I have a Toshiba A59JMZ90X in my Japanese candy cab which has a couple of issues - I'm pretty sure it needs a cap kit.
The main one is this - whenever you have a bright colour (say a bullet in a shmup or an explosion) moving up the vertical - you get a horizontal black shadow the whole way across the screen under it. (You know when you're recording a CRT and the refresh rates don't match and you get those scrolling bars? Think a more feint version of that moving up the screen under the bullet)
It's mainly a concern in any horizontal game that scrolls vertically (think Aero Fighters 2) - the bullets are bright white and the backgrounds tend to be dark. So whenever I fire a bullet up the screen, you get that shadow bar underneath it following the bullet. If you have loads of bullets, this is going to be loads of bars and it makes the screen look like it's quivering.
It's almost like colour bleed - but I've spent hours adjusting the pots and if I put the contrast downloads and run the screen darker - it almost goes. (Save for the brightest whites, explosions in metal slug etc)
It doesn't happen for any games which remain horizontal (fighters etc), but as soon as vertical motion comes into it, it starts. (happens in Aliens Versus Predator too when a character moves on the vertical axis) - I get really distracted by it in Metal Slug with grenade and tank explosions moving up the screen.
I've tried videoing it but it doesn't show up for some reason.
The other issue can only be visible when the screen is white - there's a bar about 1 inch thick across the top that's slightly yellow. Above that the screen has a tint of blue (I bought a degaussing wand and tried it out - didn't make a difference)
Might be the speakers. But the discolouration is a bit too uniform I think.
I was thinking a cap kit might solve that vertical shadow issue? - was just wondering if any of you guys came across this before?
If it is just the caps, does anyone have cap kit list for this monitor? I am assuming it's the Toshiba chassis which goes with this monitor. Tried to get some pics.
