Hi guys,

I have just received a new CRT 25'' monitor still boxed for my Mame machine. It is a Pico 110 15khz-25khz automatic multi impedance.
I can see from the general shape of the monitor that it is brand new.
I have made all the wirings correct I think as I did for my previous CRT monitor (power cord and video signal cable to my Arcade Vga card) but when I turn it on I can only see a big glowing white dot in the middle of the screen. I switch the pc power button on and no changes, no image only this white dot in the center :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I cant see the CRT tube glowing also on power up but for an unknown reason it's like there is no high voltage to run the yoke deflection....
There are instruction coming with this monitor about a jumper to be moved for the correct selection of V and H yoke impedance. Have tried one move but no luck! :banghead:

Please help!! :dunno

Agreed, and don't run it for long while it's doing that.  Not only will you burn that spot into the screen REALLY quickly, you'll also tend to take out the HOT in short order.

It seems odd that a new monitor in box would include instructions about selecting yoke impedance.  That should all be set up at the factory.  Was this just a bare universal chassis that you paired with a second-hand CRT, or did it come as a full unit?

I bought this monitor as it was sold (Chassis+CRT tube). As far as I know this Pico 110 model is the new version of the old Hantarex POLO monitor line. It was made in Italy by Electronic Systems a subsidiary of Hantarex. This unit was manufactured around 2004 but never used according to the seller. The chassis is brand new when you look at it.

I will post pictures of the chassis and the area where the jumper has to be set for correct Yoke Impedance. I will post also the schematics provided with the manual.

Cheers
Rick

Hi again,

I understood it's better not to switch the monitor on to avoid ion burns in the white spot area of the screen.
I have enclosed some pictures of the chassis with a close up of the area where the jumper and pins are located. I have noticed the wirings of the yoke deflection are connected to the chassis with a 6 pins plug and that another similar connector is located just close (as per picture). Maybe should I move the wirings to the other connector ?
I have also made a scan of the jumper instructions. Please let me know if you need further details and infos.

Thanks
Rick

Hi again,

Well I have been through some further investigations with my monitor issue and thanks to the help of my father who has some experience in electronics we found something interesting  :applaud:
We unmounted the printed board circuitry and turned it on the solded side....what a surprise to see that the board is broken and therefore shortcutted in the area where the yoke deflection is connected!!
This monitor has probably received a violent shock due to poor care during transport  :hissy: :hissy: :hissy:
We both think this is the culprit and my father said it is not a big deal to get this repaired and set it again back to work!  :notworthy: :notworthy:
I just hope the shock has not damaged something else :notworthy:
Here some pics to show you better what I am talking about.
Thanks to all of you for your interesting on this matter.
Rick

yeah that would cause it-solder bridge time

make sure you set your yoke impedence back to its correct setting unless you want the horizontal deflection circuit to crap out-badly

Hi,

The settings were put back already as per factory settings. I tried to move it once but then put it back to its original value.

I will plug all in once the circuitry is repaired and get back here for I hope good news!
Cheers,

Rick

I can feel your pain...
Received a brand new Polo2 lately, only to find out the flyback broke out of the board because of poor handling :(
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

Hi Sailorsat,

Yes right. I really had no luck with those last CRT monitors!!
One Makvision Tri Sync brand new was close to blow up on my face after only 10 days of duty in my cab!
And now this one here broken even before switching it on!

Anyway for info we did the repairing and now it's fine! Tested and running good!  :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Hope you can manage a fix for your Polo2! Those CRT monitors are sooo rare nowadays we need to ensure they will last as much as possible ;D ;D ;D
