That is the NPR slant.  The reality is that the striking workers aren't actually Hostess employees.  They are supplier employees.  Can't get the supplies they need to make their products so  they can't make their products.

I'll probably take a few hits for this, but Zingers are a great alternative to Twinkies.   :applaud:

Their announcement said they are going to liquidate their brands.  That means the products may well continue to be available once they are sold off and production moved into the new owners' facilities.

I think it is kinda funny, but some people are flipping out. I went to Walmart to find some Twinkies to bring for my office dept this morning and all the shelves were cleared. It was like a real Twinkie scare going on. I found some CupCakes and Donnettes at least, but there was this dude there who started freaking out in the snack cake isle. He was ranting about how Obama needs to declare this a national crisis and bring in the national guard to bring the factories back into production. He also said how it was all a conspiracy. He said that the Hostess executives they hired were (no joke) "agents of China" in a plot to take America down by sabotaging the company so that China can have more control over our food supply.  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

Replace the Penguin with China, and you have pretty much the same the evil conspiracy that this guy was telling me about.  :lol

Dunno, haven't the faintest about most domestic American sweets, and I still enjoyed UHF.

Always sad when popular brands disappear though...

None of you realize the true scope of this. Skript Kiddie production will virtually cease once the world Twinkie supply runs out.

Once Twinkie Casserole's become impossible to make, Kiddie's will only have Mountain Dew and cut LSD to depend on.

In all seriousness, a previous poster mentioned that (assuming this isn't a bluff to break the unions) someone else will pick up the Twinkie and manufacture it under their own brand. Twinkie is a serious cash cow. Someone, somewhere, I'm sure there's a CEO that's just salivating at the thought of grabbing this food product.

Still.....

I Wonder what Ding Dongs got us into this Zinger. Now the Ghostbusters no longer have a way of gauging the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area.

The chocodile is by far the best twinkie incarnation. As for availability, they will be back. Once they sell the assets to some Chinese company you can guarantee they will return to market smaller in size and be a huge windfall profit by being "re-introduced". I don't mind if they mess with size, but if they mess with the recipe, that will be the end of it.
