Odd Warning from a Rowe AMI 50 CD Laserstar
« on: November 15, 2012, 12:03:33 am »
Model: Rowe AMI SD-51 Laserstar
CCC: Version 4.0

The jukebox powers up, the CCC has the appropriate LED's that come on, but the Mech Control blinks board error.  When I go into service mode to check the errors all I get is an active warning 05-09.  This code 05-09 does not appear in my owner's manual.  After letting the jukebox sit for 10 minutes and erasing the errors several times, eventually the board error goes away, and will work properly.  If I turn off the jukebox, and turn it back on right away the board error indicator on the Mech Control still stays off, but if the jukebox stays off for more than a couple minutes the error light comes back on during power up.  So far the only thing I've tried is replacing a dead 3 volt lithium battery that was in the CCC.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

The 05-09 error is RAM test failed, I would start by replacing the mechanism controller.

Thanks for the info.  I'll add that during power up the screen does say Ram Test Passed and then says Loading Defaults.  I happen to have a spare mechanism controller in another machine, I'll swap it out later today and see what happens.  The warning I get is more an inconvenience than anything else, it does eventually resolve itself if left on long enough, so I was hoping it wouldn't come down to replacing the entire mechanism controller.

I ran some tests on the bad mechanism controller to try and trouble shoot the problem.  Since the mechanism controller would eventually work after being left on for 15 minutes, I figured heating the board up must be what is solving the issue.  After leaving the jukebox off for 20 minutes, I took a blow dryer right to the circuit board of the Mechanism Controller. Sure enough after heating the board up for a minute or two with the blow dryer and then turning on the power, the 05-09 warning goes away and the board error light on the mechanism controller stays off, which leads me to believe there's probably a cold solder joint somewhere that needs to be fixed.  Hopefully inspecting the solder at each pin connection will resolve this issue.
