Urgent monitor problem - HELP!!!!
« on: October 29, 2003, 05:38:41 am »
Hi all,

I've a serious problem with my monitor. It's a hantarex mt900E. I am losing vertical hold when I use an ultimarc video amp with it to boost the signal from my radeon 7500 agp card. I can't adjust the roll out of it but when I disconnect the video amp the picture goe crap again but hold returns(!)

HELP on this one please everyone, I'm about to feed the monitor to the cat!

I had a similar problem. Turned out the sync wire had jumped out of its screw terminal. I'd check your connections.

Good luck!
Shut up! Bloody Vikings!!

Nope, the sync is connected correctly (I tried this by disconnecting the sync wire and the display went haywire!)

You need a capkit. I just did one on location on one of these monitors in a laundromat game room.

One other thing. If you don't get a capkit done very soon on this Hantarex monitor you'll lose the vertical output integrated circuit.

Just had the IC replaced, vertical deflection is spot on!

Really getting on my t1ts this problem, either a crappy picture or a clear one with no vertical hold.

Cheers anyway man, it's an old chassis but seems to be up to the job.

Just to clear up a point everyone, when running a rage 128 I can't get a good picture but there is no vertical roll. Once I use the ultimarc video amp the picture improves but the picture starts rolling.

When using a radeon 7500 the picture rolls as well. Any ideas???

Thanks

Does the hantarax expect/like composite sync or separate sync?  What did you do for your VGA cable hack (when going straight from the rage 128 to the monitor) did you twist the syncs together OR hook them up separately to the neg H sync, neg V sync terminals respectively on the monitor ---> note I don't have much experience period, and it was with a WG monitor... so YMMV...

I know the video amp from ultimarc outputs only one sync terminal IIRC.

It's kinda like, one of these things is not like the other game on sesame street.

Some monitors are picky about getting composite sync, and whether it should be sent to both or just one sync terminal. (Ken, perhaps you could elaborate if i'm on the right track)

Also I assume you are some how kicking down these cards to 15khz using monarc plus, AoS, Advancemame or some other TSR and aren't sending the full 30khz monty to the monitor... I'd bet it would *really* roll then and other bad stuff...

Some monitors are picky about composite sync. Sometimes instead of jumping the horiz and vert sync pins together you just feed the sync to the horiz sync pin only.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say =)

Sorted everyone! My chassis has inputs for h and v sync so I had them both wired up. Combining them for composite sync solved the problem!!

Thanks for all the advice everyone
