Bought used particle board cabinet, how should I prepare it for painting.

So I bought a cabinet off Craigslist, it was a Radikal Bikers cab (looks like it was an MK4 cab before). The vinyl (or whatever these sticker graphics are made of) are peeling badly on the right side, and quite honestly id like to just give it a nice paint job. I have a heat gun for removing the graphics, but what else should I do to prepare the wood for painting?

I used auto body bondo this weekend to fill in screw holes and cracks and repair a blemish on my cab and was very pleased with the results. Killz makes a primer that can hide glues and markings from showing through the finished paint job. And in the words of my Father, who has 40+ years of experience in furniture building and finishing, "Those of us that can paint, paint. The rest of you better get real good at sanding.".

Killz should also seal in the smoke smell if any exists.

      After the putty, I like to spray a epoxy based sealer... This doesn't leave much in the way of build however, if the surface is not
smooth, a high build primer (over any putty fixes) Sand, sealer, and then paint...Some cabs didn't use paint at all, they used a matte black
vinyl.
