  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I'm assuming its my cpu, but i wanted to get confirmation on the slow issues I'm having trying to run any gamecube game:

Current System Specs:
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 processor up to 3.5GHz with FSB up to 800MHz
4 GB RAM (windows xp so only seeing 3)
Geforce GTX 465

rest of specs http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/Veriton5700G/Veriton5700Gsp2.shtml

all the other emulators etc seem fine, ge 64, psone, pc, (runs sfIV with pretty 60+ fps (antialiasing turned off)

Just wanted to get an opinion before I decide to look at a new rig / if I could be bothered :)

Edit# Updated to see if anyone is currently running this successfully and what hardware you are running, to see if its worth the bother :)

cheers
V

The general rule of tumb is that you need a rig 5-10x the speed of the processors on a system to emulate it properly.

The gamecube had a 486 mhz gecko processor which is the equivelent of around a 700mhz pentium III.

So yeah, you aren't running gamecube games on that rig.  I think you'd need a quad core to even attempt it.

Intel I5-2450M @2.5GHZ (turbo boost gets it to 3.1GHZ however)
IntelŪ HD Graphics 3000
4GB RAM

This allows me to run the Wii game Xenoblade fine at x2 its native resolution and with "Scaled EFB copy" turned on. Not tried any other games though - sorry and yeah, I imagine you're going to need a new computer to play GC/Wii games with it unfortunately.

I've gotten mixed results depending on the game.  Some Wii games such as the Williams pinball collection ran flawlessly but Smash Bros. must have been running at 1/4 of the speed it was supposed to.  As far as I know, I had the optimal settings for speed.  Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 (Dolphin which is essentially a Gamecube) pretty much runs flawlessly.  My computer isn't anything special:  Pentium Dual Core 2.6 Ghz. 4Gb of Ram. ATI Radeon HD 4550 Video Card.

pulled the pin :)

just bought a new rig

i5 3330 3.0 ghz 6mb
4 gig of ram
Windows 7
Nvidia Geforce 210 (existing card) (i think i listed i have a 465 gtx previosly, got confused, thats the card I bought for my pc rig...doh

looks like dolphin and px2 run pretty well now, next upgrade will be the card because I cant get Street Fighter IV to run at a decent frame rate unless im in 800 x 600 :(

Cheers all for the input !!!
