just a few questions
« on: October 27, 2003, 10:09:04 am »
1. Does anyone know how to boot a voodoo3 card directly to tv mode without having to switch from windows?
2. I am using a radeon 7000 with tv-out and the image quality is'nt bad, however the left and right boarders are a little wiggly and I notice some kind of criss cross pattern on solid colors. Would a newer radeon have better quality tv-out or about the same?
3. Would'nt an 8liner chassis that supports vga and different resolution modes be nice. Is this possible or would a standard tube not be good enough to support high resolution.
4. Is it possible to get s-video tv-out without any flicker or line movement from a video card.
5. What are the possibilities for component video input on a lot of tv's. Could it ever be useful for hooking computer to tv?
6. Has anyone hooked up a computer to a hdtv monitor or a super expensive plasma monitor and what would be the best way to hook something like that up. Maybe dvi? Also how's the picture quality for mame purposes.
7. It seems there is something called rgb component input. Is this the same as the typical component input on higher end tv's or would this be the same as rgb.
8. Is v-port on rca tv's for x-box rgb input or is it the same as component video input.
9. Why do wg 9200 have to be so blasted expensive?
10. Why does'nt someone make an arcade monitor with a case on it. I know the open frame monitors are for arcade machines but what if you just want an arcade monitor.

1. I think there's a DOS utility somewhere that does that.
2. If your card is "Made by ATI" it'll be the same, if, however, you have a "Powered by ATI" (ie third party card with the ATI chipset) card, a new "Made by ATI" card will probably look lots better.
3. It'd be cool, you'd end up with a U3100 type display, not good for general PC use, but OK for MAME and games.
4. Yes, you need a good TV-out card and good quality cables.
5. Yes, most newer Radeon cards can output component video with an adapter. With most other cards you need a converter from VGA to component.
6. Probably, not me though. DVI would likely be best, with VGA a close second.
7. 'RGB Component' is like 'Yellow Composite'. The only thing RGB about component is the colors of the cable ends used.
8. No clue, sounds interesting
9. Because you want one. ;)
10. They do, in Europe. They call them 'TVs', and the RGB connector 'SCART'
