MAMEWAH Setup - MW Users please read
« on: October 26, 2003, 05:41:33 pm »
David Butler has kindly written a great utility for MAMEWAH.  I have not given it any extensive testing, but it seems to work very well...

It allows easy configuring of everything in MAMEWAH, and can even read old config files etc.

Please give it a try: http://uk.geocities.com/david.butler4@btinternet.com

I'll be adding a link from my site shortly...

Edit by SirP:  Added url tags.  Correction, tried to add url tags, even that didn't help.  Sorry folks, you have to copy and paste the link.

"Run-time error 5" Invalid Procedure Call or Argument

Oh well, maybe I'll wait for the next version. Does the author monitor these pages?

Yeah, maybe we're missing VB runtimes or something. I seem to have problems with a lot of VB apps, but again lots of others work flawlessly.

Well it *should* have all the required files included in the setup...

Maybe because I had installed a previous version a while back (or indeed bcause I have VB), I already had the required files.  I am not sure what it is programmed in tho...

It's programed in VB. And I have Windows XP.
But I appear to be having a bit of truoble with the Installer. I am trying to get it sorted out, so there sould be an updated Installer that works within the next few days.
As far as I can tell all the DLL's etc are packaged with the Installer. But as this is my first program that I have released It may take me A while to get it working right.

It is - I think a lot of you guys will like it  :).  It is a very visual way of configuring, without entering MW or editing text files.  The fact that old CFG files can be read/updated will be the icing on the cake  :)

Right Lets try again. ::)

Updated prog to ver 0.7.3. Hopefully this will work a bit better.
Should have fixed a few bugs in program and updated Help file.
Let me know if it works or not.
I have installed on Win 98se and it works.

Started to work on Filter editor. Which is going to be fun to do :-\

Has anybody actually got the program to run.

All the errors appear to be on XP Pro.
I have XP Home and it worked on 98se, so why does it not work with XP Pro?
Perhaps I should go back to Package And Deploy wizard in VB?

Also have a question. Im not sure if anybody will find this usefull or not but i am thinking of putting a ROM Suffix renamer program in with my set up program. It's not much but I find it usefull for Genesis and snes files.

May have found out the problem with program?

I have used a dll that is not redistributale (fm20.dll) :(
Basically the dll is installed as part of MS Office and to use it you need it to be installed on your system prior to installing MAMEWAH Set-up.
The good news is that you can freely download a prog that installs it from Microsoft (Microsoft ActiveX Control Pad)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnaxctrl/html/cpad.asp

If this does not fix the problem then I have no idea what the problem is. ???

Do you need ActiveX control PAd installed or just the DLL?
I'm the paranoid type and I don't like the sound of that ActiveX control.
I have a version of office on the computer I tried this on, but it's a fairly old verison (2000 Pro?). I'll check if fm20.dll is installed.

I also have fm20.dll on my XP Pro box.

I get a "Red X" error box that says:

System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found.

<edit> This must be an old version of fm20.dll.
I just installed the ActiveX patch and MAMEWAH Setup is working great.
Looks good so far.
Thanks DBut!! </edit>

I already have fm20.dll v 2.1.9922.1 on my machine (running XP Pro) and I get the same message as eigthbit. I haven't tried installing the ActiveX control but from previous posts it seems like a no-go.
Do we need a specific version fothe dll?

eightbit and Papaschtroumpf.

I have no idea why you are getting the runtime error 5.
I can only sugest a few things to try to see what happens.

1. MAMEWAH Set-up uses the systems regisry to store info. If the program doesn't dispaly anything apart from the error (A window should appear asking where MAMEWAH.EXE is installed) then there shouldn't be anything in the resitry, check 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER,Software,VB and VBA Program settings,MAMEWAHSetup' if MAMEWAHSetup exists you could try deleting it (It should not do any harm).

2. In the MAMEWAH folder move your CFG files to a back up folder and run MAMEWAH as though it was a new install, so that you get the blank config files, and try running Set-up to see if you still get the same error. But if you do not get the first window to display I can't see this being the problem.

If none of the above work the problem is in the first few line of my code and all that happens is the sound is setup and the tab strip for the differant pages.

I'll keep diging to see if I come up with anything else ;D

Version 0.7.4 Released

I have added an update (EXE only) to my site so you don't have to download the whole installer again. Unzip and put into MW Setup folder.

Added filter Editor.
Added code to do Game list for ZINC.
Found a few more bugs. >:(

See News on my site for info

I was one of the people having trouble getting it to work. I tried the new version and it works great for me. This is really cool it will help you configure options easily that you probably didn't even know were there.

I'm running xp pro.

I'll give it a try too then. I didn't see anything in the post about addressing the problem we were having, but now it's worth giving it a try (also my cab computer is finally up after upgrades so I can try it on the real one instead of my laptop).

I haven't tried it on the real cab. It works on my laptop though and since I was getting the exact same error on both my guess would be that it should work. Its really cool and exposes a bunch of features that I didn't even know were there.

Works on my cab just fine now, so whatever the problem was, it's fixed.
The app doesn't quite fit in a 1024x768 window, I find that kind of annoying, but that's very minor.

I Know the window is a bit large but you can resize the window and use the scroll bars.
It was that or have a dozen pages with all the options on which i think would have been even more annoying trying to find the options that you want.

auto-hiding the taskbar takes care of the window not quite fitting in the screen.

I do have a problem though: the "save" options in the File menu are grayed (greyed ;) )out and the program doesn't save my changes even though I made some changes (changed layout and changed # of emulators to display.

The Layout Filename/Folder does not seem the want to save but when i alter the 'No Of emulators to display' the Save MAME Wah Settings becomes enabled so it should save. I've clicked, scrolled and even used the cursor keys and the menu gets enabled every time.
So if you change your layout folder then change # of emu's it should save.
I'll fix the layout folder on the next update ;D

I tried running the setup program on a clean install of XP and Mamewah (but forgot to run mamewah to default config files) and that will create a runtime 0 error (in case anyone gets that error).

Thanks for this great program!

Installed and this program is very helpful. I have a question about upgrading Mamewah through this program. I have v0.954b installed and downloaded and unzipped v0.962. I pointed the program to the v0.954b exe. To upgrade to v0.962, do I just need to point the program to the v0.962 exe? When I tried that my machine seemed to lock up and I had to force quit. When I relauched mamewah, my emu1 CFG was corrupt. Will the program update all of the CFG files on its own? Thanks for any help.

Thanks
James
