Mamewah and Catver file
« on: October 21, 2003, 01:42:54 pm »
Please dont flame me.

I have used the older version of mamewah and had the adult games filtered using the catver.ini file and everything worked perfectly. I recently installed the new version of mamewah and for the life of me I cannot find where to point to the ini file anywhere in mamewah. Ive been looking for like a week now.  ::)

Don't worry....I too ran into that problem after upgrading to version .962. For days I couldn't find it and then...there it was:

I found it under "List Generation Method" in the Emulator Settings. If you set it to "ROM Folder vs Listinfo (MAME), then also in "Game List Options" under "Game List Configuration", the list must be set to "Generate Custom List using Filters". Here, read the following description from that section:

"Generate Custom List using Filters (when Custom List with List Type

Actually, you cannot point to CatVer any more...

You must place catver.ini within your emulators root folder, and MAMEWAH will automatically use it.  lildivaaa's advice is great from there on... :)

i was going to post about this same thing today. last night i set up a custom filter, and placed the catver file in my mame directory, but no matter what i did, i could not get mamewah to have it show up.  i tried the different list generation settings, but nothing worked.  i am using cave's layout, and would like to make use of the catver info for displaying the game type - not to mention for filtering reasons.

Dumb question, but does Cave's layout have the category object visible?

Also make sure you refresh the main list before trying to filter.

Yeah - refresh the main list and try again.
That caught me one time.  I spent forever going through all the screens trying to get it to work.  As soon as I refreshed the main list, it was there!

Thanks everyone.
That worked. This Forum is the best.

Why was the option to pick the emulator list you would like to cycle removed? The only why I was able to do it was to use the how many emulator you would like visible section of the ini.

Just wondering

There has only ever been the 'Select Custom Lists to Cycle' option...which is still there.

The emulator part decided itself whether to cycle by if there were any games in the emus main list.  Using the 'No. Emulators to Display' option makes more sense now as it doesn't have to read the EMU?-0.LST to determine whether to cycle.

I have a related question. Does mamewah cycle through all available screenshots when in screensaver or just the games you have listed.

If I filter out the adult games from the main game list will it also filter out the adult screenshots? If not is there an easy way to filter out or delete the adult screenshots? There's some that I would rather not have the kids see.

I did some scripting a while back to remove all the "mature" rated games from my roms/snaps/Art folders...

I could probably dig them up & have them output some batch files to remove the files from your directory... Then you'd just have MAMEWAH rebuild the list according to what is actually there & you wouldn't have to worry about even having the files on your machine in the first place...

It may take me a day or to to find the scripts (written PERL) & then have them output the bat files for everyone to use though... I'm a little busy these days, but I know how nice it was to finally not have to worry about my friends or friends' kids come across those interesting screen shots while scrolling through the game list...

Just bug me with a few emails if I haven't gotten to it in a couple of days.

The Slide-Show screensaver will show only images which to relate to games in the list currently selected.  So as long as the games list used (when the kids are around) has the adult games filtered out, then they will not be shown in the saver.

Beware that if you leave it on say the unfiltered Main list, then the screensaver probably will display some 'adult' images at some point  ;D

No thats fine can there are several programs that can filter and delete the adult roms easily. There aren't any that I am aware of to easily delete the adult snapshots. So if it only shows the art from the roms in the list then that is exactly what I want.

Thanks for a great program!

I found something that will get rid of the adult roms and their related files. Its really cool. Its called mame content manager and can optionally remove the marquees, snapshots, flyers and the other files if you want. Looks really good to me. It can even do mahjong or whatever category you want.

These tools (MCM or listinfo) are useful if you are sureyou don't want "unnecessary" roms and files on your hardrive, because thye allow you to remove them completely.
Otherwise they don't offer any filtering that you can't do in mamewah, mamewah simply "hides" the files but they're still on your hard-drive, just in case you discover a passion for mahjong  :)

I'm not familar with listinfo but MCM does allow you to rename them or delete them so if you rename them you could go back later and name them back if you discovered a love for Mahjong. Me I deleted all the mahjong and adult roms and their related files.
