MAMEWAH Upgrade problem
« on: October 21, 2003, 08:39:21 am »
Hi folks

I had been running Mame32 on my desktop and in my cab for a while and somebody advised me to try MAMEWAH with DOS MAME under Windows.  Well I must say it is really cool, and very easy to use.

However, I downloaded the .zip files for version 954b and also 962.  It said to download both so I did.  954b installed just fine but I can't figure out how to get 962 to work.  When I copy the mamewah.exe file into my mamewah directory and try to run it I get a 'runtime error 13, type mismatch' message.  If I run it directly from the .zip file it runs but obviously with no settings/layout etc.  When I put the .exe for 954b back it runs fine but I just can't figure out what the deal is with 962.

Surely I'm just doing something stupid but I can't figure out what.  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm running XP on my desktop and 98SE on the cab.

thanks
JJ

Did you run v0.954b after you installed it?  If so, it will have made config files which are not compatible with v0.962.  In this case, delete the contents of your \MAMEWAH\FILES folder, and try v0.962 again :)

Minwah,

I did this and now ver. 0.962 does work, but all my cfg files for the 20 emulators are gone.  Do I have to start over in setting all the paths etc. for all the emulators everytime I upgrade to a new MAMEwah version?  I tried to install 0.954 without running it and then put 0.962 to replace the 0.954 .exe and this still doesnt work.  Is there any way to upgrade to 0.962 without starting all over as far as the configuration of ALL of my emulators?
Thanks.

Yep, thanks that will be it.  I'll try again when I get home from work.   :D

Which version did you setup your emulators using, v0.954, or something between 0.954 & 0.962??

If you used v0.96, you can probably still use the EMU?.CFG files, but not MAMEWAH.CFG.  If you used a version previous to 0.96, you will probably have to set it up again, sorry :(  Do you use all 20 emulators!??

I realise configuring for new versions is a pain, but atm it is a lot easier for me than writing a more intelligent CFG reading routine!  :P  I will try to set about this when I get chance  :)

Minwah,

I did use 0.954 to configure my files, so I will have to reconfigure them.  Not a big deal, but I just wanted to check first before finding out later that I wouldnt have to physically reconfigure them all or something.  I do use all 20 emulators, believe it or not, and that is why the reconfiguration task is a bit more daunting.  I was even thinking about asking if in the next version, it was possible to add a few more emulators as an option.  20 is alot, but there are even a few more that I dont use yet that I may want to add in the future.  Would it be difficult to add say 5 more for a total of 25 or even 30?
Seems like a ton, but once you get going with emulation, there seems to be something else you want to add.  Recently added Pinmame and would like to perhaps add Arcade Jukebox as a selectable emulator--so the slots get used very fast.  It would be appreciated if more were added in the near future.
Thanks.

Shakes fist at Minwah!  Why must we reconfigure everytime?  What are we paying you for?!?

 :P
Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.

Thanks Minwah, now both my desktop and cab are running the latest version and seeing as I am only using MAME at present it only took a couple of quick cut&pastes to do the new .cfg file. :D

Another quick question.  In the audio menu there's an option for an audio/music source.  If I stick the file location for an mp3 in there and set the options to play during menu selection and slide show it doesn't play.  Is this supposed to work with mp3's?

For now I've got my background mp3 in the startup menu on my cab but I have to have the volume set low so I can hear the game audio.  I'd much rather have the music only in MAMEWAH and have it stop once a game is launched. Looking at the options I assume that's what it is supposed to do?

You need to input just the music's directory.  It will then play all MP3's, WAV's and MID's within that folder (including subfolders).  And yes, it will stop the music when a game starts :)
