Question about Wacko Arcade rarity
« on: November 01, 2012, 10:09:04 am »
How rare is Wacko? Anyone know?
How much should one pay for one?

FWIW, I've never seen one in the wild.  Maybe someone else could comment on its rarity.

Oh you know I am! Disco lights, I'm going to put roller skate shoes on the feet so it looks like a person! Maybe put a Fleshlight in there for those late nights of gaming where i am too lazy to spank it. A fridge door with beer where the coin door was going to be. An aquarium that you can see from the sides of the machine. And when there is a party, I am going to flip it over and there will be hole cut outs for beer pong!

Haha, nah, I'm not.

My understanding is Wacko is one of those games that is only specifically sought after by a few people. It is uncommon, but not rare, and a unique cab.

In my opinion, it is my kind of cab. The kind that the average person has never heard of, but when you have them over and they give it a play, it is cool and unique enough that they feel like they discovered a hidden treasure. 8)

That game would look just fine with a 4:3 LCD run by a signal converter.  Probably easier than fighting a 25 year old CRT here.

CRT looks newer. Matter of fact, a lot of love when into this arcade. The entire bottom was rebuilt. I think I got lucky with this purchase. The game is pretty sweet, I am surprised it's not more popular.

Yeah, the game is pretty good once you get the hang of it.  It gets hard fast, too.  I spent a lot of time on it in the ACAM tourney this year.  Wacko and Mr Do's Wild Ride were the two I cursed the most this time around.

It's really weird. May be multiple problems. Maybe even a board problem.

I get this weird line going down the middle. And other times when it messes up the screen shakes and I the screen looks weird, like it's stuck only in certain spots and my guy and monsters will disapear when they go to those areas of the screen.

when characters walk over the white line it doesnt effect them.
Also the speakers mess up too when the monitor messes up, could that be from the board too. Or do you think this thing might have three problems?

Start with the power supply and work forward from there.  May as well start at the beginning.

You're a power supply!

I am thinking about replacing the PCB for a programmable pcb jamma thing, and put all the trackball games. I won't alter the CP in anyway, I'll just pray the programmable PCBs let me use the second joystick as buttons. That would be pretty cool!

It would work, since to the PCB the joystick is just four switches anyway, but that seems like a super awkward way to play anything.

If you're going to do that, just flip it.

This.

If you want to play trackball games, get a cab better suited for that (e.g. with appropriately trackball wiring for the board you want to use) and less blasphemous for butchering.

Wait, haven't I said this to you before ?

Lol! I have a vision people!

Maro Bros (personal favorite cabinet)
2 payer arcade machine (DOUBLE 8 WAY JOYSTICKS FOR ROBOTRON AND NO TRACKBALL) That has an intense focus on Console Games.
(With every console controller. Well, atleast N64 controllers and Xbox controllers)

Than I was either going to Mame a tron into a spinner cade. But those are EXPENSIVE. And I don't want to destroy a cabinet if I don't have too!
Wacko looks just about as cool as Tron (IN MY OPINION!) and it needs a pcb replacement so no harm in chaning it out, I have to anyway, and like I stated I don't want to ruin a cabinet and I wont have to if I keep the CP the way its originally meant to be.

And I tried it out (imagined the joystick was buttons) and it's not awkward at all. I thought it was pretty cool. Sure some games will feel better than others, but my real goal here is to get what I can without making any modifications to the cabinet at all. Most spinner games don' have buttons anyways right? Milipede and centipede have one, but I believe that's about it, right?
Lol, no I will never flip this cabinet, if that means Mame it.
I don't think Klov will care if I switch out the pcb, especially since it's already having some issues.

Than eventually I will make an arcade for driving games. (preferablly Burnout franchise)

Maybe a Beer Tapper. Love that cade, and it has unique controls so I am totally down for it. Don't worry guys! I wont put a programmable pcb in it or make any modifications to it either.

Goal: Using my favorite looking arcade machines, each with it's own set of unique controls, running all games.
This saves money in the end, space, and they will look bad ass.

To Chef:
Will the Wacko trackball not work for the progammable jama pcb?

No ... flip it means sell it to somebody who will actually restore it rather than kill it.

Wrong ... KLOVers would KILL you for what you propose.

To Chef:

Why do you think I mentioned it ? You can probably make it work, but have to add new encoders and a new harness.

Classic cabinets typically do not have plug and play swappable components -- you need to do a ton more research before making your plans.

When I posted that I had an original ms pac cab with vinyl sideart, jamma board and harness, a red X was chalked on my mailbox and the shades are always pulled on the house across the street.  Be careful what you do and think before you post.

If all of it fails, I will go with the programmable pcb.

You're a member at KLOV - start a thread there describing your issues and request help. Take photos of the PCB and post them. It's a great resource.

You might find someone there who can repair your board for less than it would cost to buy the ArcadeSD.

And you sure have been spending a lot of cash for someone who didn't want to invest in his initial control panel... :dunno

None of this going to happen anytime soon. I am broke like a joke, I didn't even make rent because I bought the cade. But it's rare, so I don't mind too much.

Bro, I mean this with all sincerity, if it's between rent and a cab, pick rent every time. You can't sleep in a cab. That Wacko's not going to magically zoom up in value any time soon, making you a millionaire.
