Starting Project
« on: October 18, 2003, 01:20:40 pm »
I got a cab that used to be street fighter 2, but someone really hacked the paint up bad. Tried to repaint a portion of it, and it just doesnt look right. Ive decided to go Diamond Plate Metal sheeting on the sides, front, and control panel. and black t molding to off set this. Has anyone ever done this before? Thanks

I think that it will be more expensive than you think.  This stuff costs like $30 a square foot, or something close.

why don't you try using bondo or some other wood filler to repair the damage and then get some laminet to cover the sides... it still might be expensive but not as expensive as using diamond plate metal if it's gonna cost $30 per square foot

I've been dreaming of building a diamond plate machine for months.  I just found a place less than 1 block from my home that fabricates stuff from diamond plate.  Time for a visit.

I just talked to my neighbor. All my fabricating, and powdercoating is free :). Now all i gotta do is pay for the materials. Score on the freebie

To me a cab covered in Diamond Plate would just look like tacky oversized kickplate  :o  ;D
But to each his own I guess.

Ive been thinking that, so i might just be doing all black/glossblack diamond plate, just to avoid the bling bling.

I dont think that is diamond plate guys.  That looks like brushed steel or aluminum.  Looks like they had a small grinder and they just hit it, moved to the right about an inch, then hit it again.

I ordered it. I am going all black poweder coated diamond plate. The black is more classy, not so shiny, but has a nice look to it. Will post pics

Nope...
this is what they are talking about...

Just do a google.com search for diamond plate... I found that image with the image search...

It's metal with those shapes protruding (sticking up) all over it in that pattern.
I think it would make a horrible cab covering, but again... To each his own.
I hope to see the end product & be proven wrong (on the horrible look thing)

Just make sure that you dont leave any protruding edges, no need for someone to be leaning on some razor sharp metal and be like "Hey, I'm bleeding, OOOOO CRAP"  I honestly dont know how it will look, I personally like the solid paint looking color, but a darker metal might look pretty good too.  Hope the final result turns out good.
