Wells Gardner - wg2221205 - chirp before firing up.

I turned on my Silver Strike Bowling machine today and to my surprise...no video...I pulled off the back and heard a faint chirp that continually got louder.  After about 2 minutes the monitor finally fired up.  I'm assuming a part is going bad but have not clue where to begin.  The only numbers that I could find are wg2221205.

Are you sure your monitor isn't a WG D279200?

im not an expert but if i remember, a chirp sound may relate to the power supply section of the monitor, so try to test this area for problems (bad capacitors/components/soldering/damage etc)

...and watch all of the randy fromm monitor repair videos on youtube

a failed main B+ cap can cause excessive time to come on....basically the power supply tries to load up the cap and it can't anymore...it has to shut down.

after several tries it eventually has enough oomph to start.

it's the biggest cap on the board. (200 volts and 330uf maybe)

Thanks guys...I've been busy with  project at work so I have't been on since my last post.  I'll post a picture of the monitor when I get into it over this weekend....I couldn't find any other numbers to identify the monitor the last time I was in it so hopefully the picture will help itentify it.  I did look at the capacitors and didn't find a buldge like in the previous pics you sent lilshawn.

the main filter cap doesn't usually bulge...the container has a rubber gasket on the bottom the prongs of the cap stick through...it dries out and shrinks. the cap, no longer sealed, loses the electrolyte in it.

this is one of the other modes of failure.

by the time it fires up i'll bet that cap is running hot.

once it's running does the picture show excessive "blooming"? (picture varying in size when going from light to dark images or flashes.)

Hey guys,

Well, I ended up moving the machine from my garage to my basement due to the weather getting colder.....and the monitor has not acted up once all week (been firing up right away).  If it was slightly cold outside when turning it on, would that have affected it firing up?  Regardless, this is now not an issue until it starts acting up again :)
