MAMEWAH and console emulation trouble
« on: October 13, 2003, 02:46:25 pm »
Hey all,

Just dropping a question into the grinder to see what comes out. I'm currently using MAMEWAH v.962 with no problems, except for one. I'm using Z26 to emulate Atari 2600 console games. While I have everything working, as far as the emulator goes, in MAMEWAH...it will only list the actual ROM names instead of the full game names in the Games List I'm looking for an easier way to list the full names (instead of entering them manually). Anybody out there got an idea? ???

Thanks,
Craig - Atlanta, Ga. USA

Any chance you could post your solution here, Minwah ?

Just in case anyone else (like me for example) runs into the same problem. ;)

Yes, you need to use an NMS file.  I believe it describes how in the Readme :)

Thanks for the hint, Minwah...I should better read the readme completely next time.  :)

I'll try that NMS stuff then.

Thank you, Minwah. The NMS file you sent did the trick. After renaming the file to the emulator name, putting it in place in the emulators home directory and refreshing my game list.....it was more or less perfect. There are some 2600 games I have that were not listed in the NMS file, but I will modify that. Thank you for the assistance.....now, I'll need to do the same thing for my Daphne laserdisc emulator.

BTW - Could you host these NMS files (once completed) on your site for download in the future? It would help people like me get off the ground better with non-mame emulation.

Hey guys,

I have been trying to get my Z26 emulator and roms working with MAMEwah for sometime.  I have downloaded the program Z26 from Stuzza's site and I have the roms in the rom folder.  Everything in MAMEwah seems to be pointed in the right direction.
Couple of questions:  1)  Do you need to unzip the roms to use with Z26?  The roms that I have are all zipped.
2)  Can you more clearly explain what to do with NMS file?  Is it a file I need to download from somewhere?  What options do I chose to get it to work with MAMEwah?
Perhaps the NMS file thing is what is not allowing me to load games with Z26.  Not sure.  But if there are any other suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks.

1) Yes, you must unzip the Atari 2600 roms into your rom directory. They must be in their native .BIN format.

2) The NMS file is not "needed" to run the Atari roms, but is very nice to have!! The NMS file is just a text file, with the extention NMS instead of TXT. It is a list of all your roms for your emulator, in a specific format. Basically, after you have it configured properly, you should be able to list the games in MAMEWAH as their "rom names". But, using the NMS file....you can get the roms to list as their full-product name.

Example would be:

rom name: dkong
Full name: Donkey Kong

NMS format to display it properly would be:

dkong|Donkey Kong

I asked if Minwah could post his version on his website.....kind of like a starter kit because there are many more roms that what's listed in his NMS file, but it's a very good start.
