Aoi Sekai no Chūshin de - An Anine About the old Console Wars!

I just wanted to let you guys know about a brand new anime that started last week.  (Available in the US via crunchyroll.com)


Ok Listen to this:

The Land of Consume is constantly at war.  Currently the land is divided into two kingdoms, the red-eyed Ninterudo Empire, which controls 90% of the land, and the losing Segua Kingdom, who's people have blue eyes. The war between these factions is known as the "Hard War"

So yeah, Nintendo vs Sega in the land of Console fighting the HardWARE War. 

Oh but it gets better... the "bad guys" of Ninterudo consist of the General Marcus, who sports a giant mustache, is clad all in red and can often be seen riding a green dinosaur.  His younger brother Guiliji, is also a general along with a blond-haired swordsman by the name of Zelig.  So yeah, Mario Luigi and Link(Zelig refers to zelda, but like frankenstein's monster, it's a common mistake).  The good guys consist of Gear, a boy with spikey blue hair that is really strong and can run really fast.  He decided to join the Segua army when his younger, light-brown-haired friend died.  He travels with his elfin "sister"  Nel. (Haven't placed her yet)  Other generals joining him are the giant Harris, who reminds me of the guys in Altered Beast (minus the transformation) Opal, who is a dead ringer for the heroine in Athena, and general Alex, who we haven't seen yet, but obviously must be Alex Kidd.  There is also a mercenary on the Segua side, who defected from the Ninterudo controlled land of Tetrand called Tejirof.  Predictably he fights using magic tetriminos.

So basically it's the story of Sonic the Hedgehog, with the help of Athena Alex Kidd, the Altered Beast Dude and a Tetris guy out to avenge the death of Tails at the Hands of Mario Luigi and Link. 

Thus far it's a typical anime, but it's really fun when a new character pops up trying to figure out which game they represent.  There are a ton of in-jokes, so if you like anime, you might want to check it out.

Update:

Apparently this series already has a wiki entry.  I don't agree with some of the interpretations, but apparently...

Opal= The Ship from Fantasy Zone?
Ramses (the pricess of Segua) = Columns?
Nel = Nei from Fantsy Star II

I know that Sega didn't exactly have a huge cast of characters back then, but man... making columns a character and borrowing one (tetris) from nintendo...

The rest were correct btw. 

Also according to the wiki, there will be characters based on Fire Emblem, Kirby, Pokemon, Metroid, Star Fox and Earthbound fighting for the Ninterudo Empire later on.
