Free Console Artwork
« on: October 18, 2012, 04:04:42 am »
Howdy yall,
I recently updated all the software on my arcade cabinet, and in the process, I thought I would update my Mala skin. I wanted to have sort-of technical renderings of all the consoles and thought I would just download sketchup models and render them out.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find models for a lot of the consoles, and the ones I did find, were either poorly detailed or horribly inaccurate (NES does NOT have round controller ports!!!), so I decided to model and render them myself.

I have quite a few consoles and controllers done, but not nearly all. I have decided to release the artwork that I'm doing under a creative commons license.

The consoles and controllers that I have done:
Atari 2600 (1977 and 1980 models)
Atari 2600 Joystick
Atari 2600 Paddle
NES
NES Controller
NES Zapper (red and grey)
SNES
SNES Controller (4 color buttons and blue buttons)
N64 (Stock grey and all the Funtastic colors)
Game Cube (4 different colors)
Came Cube COntroller (4 different colors)
PS1
Namco Guncon lightgun
PS2
PS2 Controller
Dreamcast
Dreamcast Controller
Dreamcast VMU
Sega Genesis
XBox
Amiga 1200 (Not a console, but I love my Amiga)
Competition Pro Joystick (For the Amiga)
Aimtrak controller

Consoles on the todo list:
Atari 5200
Sega Master System
Sega Saturn
Commodore 64
1 or 2 arcade machines

You can view the images here: http://kgreene.com/console_project and download a zip containing 2000x2000 pngs with alpha transparency.

I will be adding more as I finish them.

Keith

Heh, thanks. I think I posted the control panel artwork a few years ago when I started building it, but don't think I ever followed up. It's pretty much done now, construction-wise, but I'm always working on it, lol.

Dude they are amazing ! Top shelf work ! LOVE THESE !
I'm a huge fan of MaLa and I requested (suggested) that it would be a great feature if one could use a graphic to indicate a list change.
Images like these with that feature would be an A ++++++ !

I gotta DL these.
You have a zip of all them ?

I should read more, you do have a zip.
Thanks !

Just wanted to add.

These images would work so perfect for what I had in mind for my project.
I'm working on some new MaLa layouts hoping the feature I mentioned above can be utilized.
I mean how badass would it be that when you pull up a list of gun games you see the Aim Trak image on the bottom !
KILLER - I LOVE IT !

That's kinda where I was going when I started making them. I have separate lists for games that use trackball, spinner, aimtrak, as well as some other categories and of course, separate lists for all the console emulators.

Also, for some of the emulators, I actually have real controllers connected, and I was planning on adding some kind of indication about which controllers work with which emulators, etc. For instance, I have 2 gamecube controllers that work for p1 and p2 in Dolphin, but also have 2 PS2 controllers that work as p3 and p4.
Maybe I'll put some kind of ribbon at the bottom of the screen for emu's that use real controllers instead of the CP.

I added some of my Mala background images to the Venture Arcade gallery on my site, but here's basically what they look like:

I'm working on my final in house arcade cabinet, Mario MAME !
Some small videos can be seen here : http://www.youtube.com/user/mikeboss416
It's a MAME cabinet with 21" crt monitor housed in a Nintendo cabinet with Mario artwork.
I've used a 2 player 6 button per side layout for the control panel, custom MaLa layout, and included several emulators as well as a set of Aim Trak guns.

Taking a page from a buddy of mine I plan on purchasing some of the USB versions of various console controls. Once controls started to have analog and digital sticks I thought it was perhaps not ideal to emulate via the arcade control panel. So Dreamcast & GameCube for example would be used via the USB version of the controler.
Cabinet as I mentioned also has a pair of Aim Trak guns.

In MaLa itself I have my ALL GAMES - FAVORITES & MOST PLAYED lists per system.
I also love using ROMLister to create specific lists, like fighters, gun games, etc.

(Sorry I guess all the above has nothing to do with your art)..................................

What does is ..........................

I'd love a graphic element to indicate what system, game type, etc is in use.
Your artwork is amazing ! I'd love to be able to add a lil box to the bottom of my layouts where you art is featured. I hope it will become a feature in the new MaLa.

Yeah, I use romlister as well to generate my lists. I also have a a pair of EMS Trio Linker Plus II usb adapters that allow me to use 1 PS2, 1 GameCube and 1 Dreamcast controller each. I have 2 to support 2 players on each console. The controllers work well, and are good for the purists :)

These are fantastic! I tried making an Atari in 3D myself so I can appreciate the time and effort that must have gone into getting them as detailed as they are. I'd love to see PAL versions of things such as the PAL version of the SNES sometime.

Wow, I had no idea the European version was completely different than the US version. I'll see what I can manage or if I can find a euro model on CL or Ebay.

Yeah the PAL snes is based on the Super Famicom design (as are the cartridges, which also look different to US SNES cartridges). Not sure why they did that but here in Australia, that's the SNES I have plugged into my TV  ;D

Yeah, I just realized it was basically a Super Famicom. An old roommate had one of those , but that was a number of years ago.

SNES PAL version is done :)

I also rendered it as a Super Famicom, since the only thing different on the outside are the markings.
The large version is in the zip on my site.

You Sir, are a legend  :notworthy:

I shall put it to good use and keep my eyes firmly glued to this topic if you happen to make others! As a side-note, you could also "rebrand" the Genesis you've done to the PAL version too. Only difference is the logo and button colours, it was called the Mega Drive here.
