Which Design?
« on: October 16, 2012, 04:47:26 am »
Let me start off by saying with my project I am getting some REALLY excellent help.

First off I am getting help from Rick Uhlenhopp. The man is a genuis.
Here is his YouTube channel. If you want to buy some of his work I HIGHLY recommend it!

Search his youtube channel to see some of his awesome, awesome work.

I repainted an old junky DK cabinet and turning it into a Mame Mario Bros.
The sides are currently the PERFECT orange. I had to spend 100 dollars in paint to get the color right.
As you know the Mario Bros colors pop with the Bright Orange and Black combination.
Rick gave me two designs.

This decision is TOUGH. I like both sides and I can't choose. I love the orange, but I also love what he did with the blue sides where it re-uses the colors from the front.

Which one do you think is better and why? I like BOTH so much, so I can't go wrong either way, but I figure I'd ask you guys to see your opinion.

I like the orange one.

The unique shape of the nintendo cab gets lost in the full side art.

Go with the top (orange) one.

Okay, maybe a dumb question but can I put some protective clear coat over the side art without ruining it? There is something at Home Depot called liquid glass. Sound like it would keep the cabinet protected, but what do I know.

The place that prints the art should include a durable laminate over the vinyl base.
They probably have various options you could discuss with them.

I like the bottom because it's different....  But as a purist I'd have to go with the top one because it looks the original artwork.  Also... you spent all that time trying to get the perfect orange only to cover it up with the artwork?   ???  On another note... Phoenix Arcade Shop already has the sideart ready for purchase...  Also if you want make your life a lot easier they have the ArcadeSD board for sale which can do Mario Bros!  It's really a great board... I have one in my cocktail cab!

Let that perfect orange show!  Don't cheap out on the side art printing if you are worried about them being protected.

+1 orange.  the art you designed looks nice, just like the feel of the orange, plus cheaper and easier.

I like #2 better, but TBH I'm not a fan of the orange colour.   :embarassed:
