Why do the monitors hate me?!?! Help!
« on: October 15, 2012, 05:22:14 pm »
So I recently replaced the monitor on my MAME Cab with a WEI-YA NOS 27 / 29 " CGA / EGA / VCA SWITCHABLE VIDEO MONITOR from Twisted Quarter (http://www.twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200_201&products_id=1311) and the damn thing is messed up!  Here's what is happening:

While I am able to use the remote to bring up the menu, some of the menu choices aren't working.  I cannot widen or shrink the horizontal image on the screen.  When I attempt to, the green bar moves in the direction I move it and the value changes but there is no affect on the screen at all.  The image remains stretched.  This is a pretty big problem because for some reason, the image is currently stretched to maximum and the result is my being able to only view about 30% of the screen.  Additionally, the menu selections for changing the shape of the screen do not work and the result of that is the screen is severely warped.

To clarify, the menu comes up, the screen will degauss, the menu options for vertical manipulation as well as moving the screen from right to left and up and down do work but the other selections do not.  The menu appears as if it is working but the actions made via the menu have no affect on the image in the selections I have indicated.

Does anyone have a similar experience and know how to fix it?  I am pulling my hair out over this and am soooooooo pissed that this new monitor is now screwed up.  HELP!!!

your first step would be to contact the place you bought it from. If it's broken right from the get go, THEY should have to fix it...not you.

Maybe you're a good target! Hmh hmh hmh hmh. A particular resolution with any given monitor will provide a certain picture size. Sometimes it's naturally pretty wide; other times pretty narrow. It has to do with how a monitor 'interprets' the signal. What resolution(s) is this happening?

I wish it was as simple as a resolution problem.  This is going on when the computer is running through the Bios/Startup.. .  It isn't a resolution issue.  I contacted Twisted Quarter and they suggested checking the remote's cable which I did.  I disconnected it and reconnected it a few times (Checking the screen between each attempt).  I am worried that something on the chassis is broken... which would make it easier to fix since I could just send that part in... but I was hoping someone on here might have had a similar problem...

That is not comforting to hear!  I am pulling my hair out over this thing... so frustrating.  It would be one thing if it were easy to move and send in for repairs but these monitors are so big and dangerous to handle.  Ugh!

Just contact Andrew and be civil. He'll be more than happy to work with you as long as you don't fly off the handle.

I am always civil you bastard!!!  Seriously though, I need to call him but I need to get home in front of the monitor when I do so.  Still at work...

UPDATE:

Andrew called me last week and arranged to receive the chassis and either repair it or replace it.  Hopefully it will work and I can get back to trying to beat my high score in Joust :)
