Recycling old monitor... Does anyone want it for parts?
« on: October 03, 2012, 05:10:49 pm »
I have a 27" CRT Betson Imperial arcade monitor (IMP 44-4070-RT) that no longer works.  It has a new chassis/PCB that I just got back from Betson but there is something burned out on the yoke and it no longer works.  I was going to take it to a recycle center and dispose of it but thought that someone might want it to repair or strip it for parts.  I am in San Antonio, TX (North East) and would make it available to anyone who wants it.  If you just want the chassis/PCB, I can throw it back in the box it came in and ship it out.  I just ask that you cover the shipping cost; otherwise, I am not asking any money for this.

I would definitely like the boardset.  I have several of these things, and parts are hard to find since they're very Korean.

Did you ever figure out what was actually wrong with it?  Unless the yoke's burned, this can probably be fixed.  If you don't want it and don't think the yoke is actually broken, I'd be willing to pay to have the whole thing shipped to me.

Some pics of the yoke would help.

I didn't mess with the yoke and just went ahead and replaced the monitor with a new one.  I don't really know how to ship something like this but maybe I can put it in the box of the new monitor once it arrives.  I ended up paying a little under $100 (I think it was $96) for shipping of a similar monitor via FedEx.  So I guess if you want to pay the shipping, I could get the monitor to you.

You can get 27" TV boxes at U-haul for ten bucks. I've used them to ship monitors. Pack - newspaper works fine - and tape it well.

By the way. These threads usually go in B/S/T.

$100 to ship is about right.  You definitely want more than some newspaper to pack it in, though.  Certain kinds of foam work very well when strategically placed, or of course if you've got a monitor box with the packing material around, that works great.

Which tube style is this?  Is it the "dynaflat" (completely flat, KT-2914DF) or the "mostly flat" (KT-2914F) model?

Can you get me some pictures of the yoke windings?

I hate to be so picky on a freebie, but the shipping for the whole thing is of course pretty steep.  I'll happily take the boardset no matter what and cover the shipping of course.

You can use whatever you want, but filling it with balled newspaper works just fine. I would wrap the monitor in a blanket/moving pad/etc first, though.

Damn... didn't see your questions about the monitor and I was just going to post that I got the new one and put the old one into a box... filled it with Styrofoam too...  I haven't a clue what type of yoke it is.  It fit into the other box just fine though.
