Mame Front Ends....
« on: October 10, 2003, 06:42:46 pm »
Heres a two part question...

1. I am trying to decide which mame front end I want to use.  I think I will go with a Windows based one since I am not too familiar with DOS or command line.  What are some suggestions?

My system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+  (overclock to a 3200+)
512 MB RAM
Aracde VGA Card
Windows XP OS

2. What are some Front ends you guys are running?  How do you like them?

I suggest you learn something about Dos/Command line...Joking...only kidding...well kinda.  ;D

Mamewaha, Dragon King, and 3Darcade are currently the big three around here. They are all great and all very different in look/feel. I suggest you try them all. And if they aren't to your liking there are tons more that will work in windows...the key to frontends is to try them; and you have more than enough machine to handle any FE you throw at it.

Good luck!

You've got a powerful machine so you can use just about anything out there, it's mostly a matter of personal preference. For those with a less powerful CPU, mamewah is probably the best choice.

Seeing that you are running with an ArcadeVGA am I to assume that you are hooking this PC to a real arcade monitor??

If that's the case.. that too limits the front ends..

As far as I know, Dragon King is made for PC's running at really high resolutions (1024x768+) and frequencies that are outside what a regular arcade monitor can handle.

I've never tried 3Darcade.. not sure if it'll work on an arcade monitor.. so you're stuck with MAMEWAH under Windows XP..

there's lots of good info here on how to configure it, and how to hide the existance of Windows XP!

Good luck.

Both dragon king and 3darcade will run ok on a tv or arcade monitor setup to run windows...

Thanks for the sugestions you guys!  Since I am connecting this to a real Arcade monitor, I will give Mamewah a try (as soon as I can figure out why XP isnt installing on my computer) :(
I will be back very soon if I have problems... which I most likely will :)

If you are running at 640x480 then 3darcade and dk will run fine.  Anything lower and it's iffy, at least for my fe.
