Monitor Sync Problem, (I think)
« on: October 10, 2003, 11:48:42 am »
Hey everyone!
I'm trying to connect up a Time Soldier PCB with the control panel to my 19" electrohome monitor.
I wired everything up correctly (I think). The pcb powers up, and the sound effect play through the speaker. Time Soldiers is a Jamma + PCB that uses composite negative sync. I connected the rgb , ground, and sync lines to the monitor. When I power up, it looks like the the Horizontal sync is not working. To test, I disconnected the sync line entirely, and it rolls vertically, Then I reconnected the sync line , and the vertical rolling stopped, but the horizontal looks all screwed up. (about 10-12 "striped sections" across the screen horizontally)
The Hsync and Vsync lines are tied together on the monitor. Are there any suggestions for trouble shooting? This is the first PCB that I've tried to get up and running.
As a further test, I'm going to plug in another Jamma pcb to see if it has the same trouble. I'm trying to narrow don if this is a PCb or monitor issue. (Yes, I cleaned the card connector)

Another thing to do I thought of is testing using the positive Hsync and VSync lines, I know this will make half the picture appear on the top if it works, but if it does, I can make a + to - external sync circuit and use the positive sync lines instead.

Thanks in advance,

Just a semi-random suggestion that might not have merit (but it might)

on the monitor, lose the bridge/link between the h sync and the vsync and hook your composite sync to one or the other... (i.e. NOT both)

It's my understanding that there's a little bit of varience between which monitors and game combinations like which sync where.  i.e. some games + monitors require the composite synce sent to both hsync and vsync (hence they are combined/jumpered on your monitor, right?) and other times it works much better if you just send it to one of the syncs....

*shrug* good luck pmf

You kinda mentioned this, but just for clarification....

The neg sync header is the 3 pin one above the 6-7? pin one where you connect the R/G/B/Gnd from the game board.  On the GO7, you need to put the composite neg sync to the 2 left-most pins on the 3 pin header (looking at the chassis as installed) to get it to sync up.  A GO7 won't sync up sending a composite signal to just one of the neg sync pins like W-G's sometimes will.

Another thing, your horizontal hold may be way out of adjustment.  I've had a multiple band pic before, and it just needed the hor hold tweaked.

Oscar, yes, I'm sending the neg. composite synce to both the hsync and the vsync on the 3 pin header. The 3rd pin is the ground pin that I didn't connect. I'll try to tweak the h-hold (hsync) knob to see if that helps
Thanks!, I report back my findings.

Something else to check: on the Electrohome G07 main board the resistors R314 and R317 should be checked to see if they are the correct values. The factory had mistakenly installed 4.7k resistors. The correct values for both should be 390 ohms.

If your monitor has not had a capkit then that should be the first thing to do.
