Madcatz SF 4 SE LED MOD HELP!
« on: September 24, 2012, 11:18:08 am »
What's up forum...I'm new to this whole fightstick world and I hope I'm posting this in the right place but I finished my first mod last night minus my led mod...I can't figure out why it isn't working...I'm using a sparky PWM SMD LED controller and I'm using uila leds with it...I only have one button out of 8 lighting and its only a solid green...not any of the other colors..all the buttons have power and are functional just not lighting up..I've checked all the grounds on each button but everything looks good..can any of the experienced modders offer any help?...id sure apprciate it..

personally I would straight wire them off a 3.3V or use a 5v with a resistor and have a switch under the cp if your just lighting them is all.

no clue what those are that you mentioned above so I cannot help with any of that sorry.

Might want to try the shoryuken forums. They are geared more for the fight stick mods. Most of what you will find here is arcade builds.

Thanks alot for your help...I checked on srk but found that if I don't have a engineering degree I couldn't understand much of what they were talking about...I was going off a tutorial where the guy installed the led board with no issues and made it sound easy..and during my research of the product saw that it wasn't that hard...but now I found out that there is programing involved and other parts..I like the straight hardwire idea...wire them to a switch and have them run..thanks again..

[/quote your led mod looks great...where did you get all your supplies like the Molex connectors and power switch?

Yup..I'm going to try and get a refund on my sparky pwm and buy some supplies and do it the way you outlined in your tutorial.

.        I attempted my hardwire mod today and got more of the same...I have power to the switch but when I hook a led to the switch no light..I was still using my uila led lights from focus attack.com I figure that as long as I have a ground and power that I should have light...but nothing..do you have any ideas?..I'd really appreciate it..

Do you have it wired backwards? Do you have a multimeter?

I think you may have it wired wrong. Could you post some pics or a wiring diagram of how you currently have it wired up?

Well, that pic is a start, but it doesn't help much. I've attached your pic with some additions. Since I can't see any of the terminal labels on your switch, could you tell me what they're labelled (green, red, and blue arrows)? The terminal labels should be on the switch body, maybe one will be C or COM, the other two might be single letters or numbers or NO and NC. What type of switch is this, a toggle switch? Once you can tell me this stuff, I can tell you exactly how to run your wires to it.

.   Yeah its a toggle switch...the blue arrow is the ground from the USB and the ground for the led..red arrow is the power from the USB and and green is the color of the led on that button..

I didn't want to know what wires connected to where, just what the terminals are labelled on the switch itself...

The following is an assumption due to lack of info:
But, the wire you have connected at the red arrow should connect to the LED + wire/terminal. Ground from the usb should be connected to where you have it (I'm assuming since I don't know what the terminals actually are on the switch). The red wire connected at the green arrow is probably fine. Get rid of the black wire going to the LED.

Are you using RGB LEDs or single color? Can you post a pic of the connections on the LED so I can know for sure what your setup is like?

Weird switch. Does the switch itself light up? Do you have a link from where you bought it (if you got it online)? In the mean time try this. Hook USB ground up the the ground terminal on the switch (the one on the side). Hook up your RGB LED color wire to the + terminal of the switch. And hook up USB 5V to the + wire of your RGB LED.

Here's a couple of pics on the wiring..I connected the 5v USB wire to the ground on the led and connected the color wire to the + in the switch and it was really dim...and when I connected the color wire to the ground on the switch it lit up bright but can't turn it off ofcourse..my led wires don't have a 5v power wire just a black ground wire..the other wires are all color wires..

The black wire marked with a + on your leds isn't a ground, that's your voltage in wire. The color wire on the leds are all ground wires. Do you have another wire connected to the switch? The switch shouldn't be lighting up how I told you to wire it…

Anyway, try running usb ground to the switch ground, usb 5v to the + terminal of the switch, the black + wire of the led to the other terminal of the switch (looks like a light bulb), and your color wire (ground) from your led back to usb ground (doesn't have to be on the switch terminal, but can be for testing if needed).

I always switch the ground side of my circuits, but this switch may be designed to switch the voltage side…
