Need help with CPWizard

First question is this. I can only get it to display if I uncheck MAME Output System. If I leave it checked the layout doesn't show, but a small application title bar with the title "Message" shows up in the lower left of the screen and everything stops responding. I'd like to have CPWizard pop up upon pausing so I need MAME Output System to work.

I'm using MAME 143 (w/ high score and no nag diff) on Tiny XP.

NOTE: I've tried all the suggested methods, except for the diff compiled mame, and none of them worked for me.
