Saw Captain America last night....
« on: September 18, 2012, 05:03:33 pm »
I was going to by-pass this because I've never been a Cap fan and all. Yet, last night in a Netflix search, it came up. And I thought, ah why not?

I think it was well done. It had all the things a good movie has - decent story and writing, good actors, great cinematography - and everything a comic book flick should have - senstationalism and gritty fighting.

Of course, there were some errors, the most blatant being:

Stark would've known exactly what was cool about those blue crystals, because of the blue glow of the guns that shot some kind of annihilating energy, of which they returned with. Or that the tracked vehicles were also powered by them.

The ending: why was New York in danger? Not because of the wing plane he was....stuck....in. Because of the kamikaze plane marked New York still...or rather back....in the body of the craft?  No, because he crash-landed the plane anyways. And why go far away? Why not land in the ocean near the eastern coast?

All very ambiguous.

But other than those, it was a great movie.

That's pretty much the same summary I would give. I really have no nostalgia for Cap (like I do for Spidey and X-men) but I was definitely entertained and have watched it several times.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

I thought it was a great movie! Never thought about Stark not knowing what the energy was, but I think everyone will wonder why the plane had to be crashed there.

I'm not an SS authority (HAH HAH HAH), but they looked right.

I'll do ya another: if Stark could make anything weighing more than a pound, let alone a couple tons, levitate.....even more so with a mobile power source....

And given that last, I don't think he would've been so spell bound about the crystals, except in so far as they were an unfamiliar, perhaps non-terrestrial, substance.

It was the very worst movie of the year, and probably the worst superhero movie I have ever seen, including Dare Devil.

The Captain America backstory is not all that complex.  Considering what they had to work with I thought this was pretty good.  The story just doesn't hold up all that well over 100 minutes.

I haven't seen Ghost Rider. But I seriously doubt that it's worse than Dare Devil. Which, by default, makes it better than Captain America.

Daredevil is pretty bad but neither one is nearly as bad as Elektra.

Rocketeer is not a great movie, but for trying to capture the essence old serial action dramas, it passes.  Compare it to some of the crap that came out after it (The Shadow, Judge Dredd) and it looks like a work of art.

I challenge that it's not possible to be worse than Dare Devil.  Dare Devil is Master of Disguise bad.  You can dislike Capt America, I'm cool with that, but there's no way Dare Devil isn't the worst.

That title might belong to the Dolph Lundgren version of The Punisher.

How about Batman and Robin? Just look at the opening scene. Mr. Freeze robs a museum. Batman and Robin pop in and immediately have a hockey match with Mr. Freezes henchmen. Then Mr freeze escapes in a rocket ship that was somehow in the museum, and batman and robin hitch a ride on the ship. At very high altitudes, Mr. Freeze Jettisons and shoots his freeze gun at the ground to somehow soften his plummet. Meanwhile still in the stratus, Batman and Robin make makeshift surfboards out of the rocketship doors and surf down to the ground to somehow avoid being smashed on the Gotham city pavement. What portion of Captain America even remotely approaches that level of suck?

Here are some other of my honorable mentions for worst super hero flick of all time: Constantine, Catwoman, Spiderman 3, TMNT 3, My Super ex girlfriend, Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe, Steel, Superman IV, The Phantom, Robocop 3. Yeah, all crap.

Catwoman had Halle Berry in that suit.  That automatically makes it better than every other movie on your list.

Yeah, but If I want to put up with a awful script just to to look at a chick in a leather suit, I might as well just buy "busty babes in leather 7" from the local adult store.

It's a shame that movie didn't have more going for it (to warrant a sequel). But I have to admit, in spite of the outfit, I still have never seen it. On the other hand, I own Monster's Ball, so I've definitely seen Halle Berry in some pretty flattering outfits.

No, sum of ems betta.

Batman after the first one was a very slick, very steep slope. To Mondosuckedness. You can't even call those comic book movies.

Lundgren's The Punisher and Daredevil are top suck champions.
