CONEY ISLAND COCKTAIL FINISHED!
« on: October 09, 2003, 01:36:12 pm »
 ;D
GREETS ALL!.....

My second cab is finished!...for those of you who remember I was complaining a few months ago that I was "bummed" that I was done w/my stand up cab.

Well...after some encouragement and negotation with the wife....I'm proud to show of Coney Island Cocktail!

Some quick stats:
I used a cocktail kit from Arcadedepot.com.

I'm running a Compaq Presario (externally running the cab through cords)...I know that's lame, but I don't have enough IT skills to risk my new PC).

I modified an XArcade w/an Oscar Spinner. I know some folks don't like the XArcade but I think it's great!

Overall this cost me around $1200. (It would have been much higher had I had to buy a monitor which I got for free...19" Sony!).

I hope you like's what you see!!!

PS- Thanks go out to Techtv.com (for an article I saw about the kit); Mr. Chung's Arcade Cocktail website; All of you; and of course Pac Man.

The MameMaster!!!!
PS- Maybe cab #3 I'll have the guts to tear apart a PC and wire my own controls!...enjoy the pics (I may have to post a few times because there are a ton of pics I think you'll enjoy).

Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

Wow! nice job :D I love the look of the cocktail cabinets.

If it wasn't for the X-arcade, I couldn't tell the difference!

you should take apart that xarcade stick and put all the guts and buttons on the cab control panel it think.  Other then that it looks great Nice work

I was "this close" to doing just that. But...did you see the first pic of the inside of the XArcade....wire city. I'm handy enough to do it, but I don't mind the look of the XArcade (I actually like it!). As a matter of fact, here's a pic up my upright cab also using the xarcade...I think it looks pretty neat.

But....I have to leave something to do in the Winter...don't I??  ;D

the 2 silver thingy on the bottom of the cab (on the side...) is that speaker grill ??... if so.. that's cool !!!... where did you get it ?? any other styles ??....

Nice cocktail !!.... only thing I would change is facelift the CP so that there's no x-arcade trademark.... and blend it with wood grain... then it'll look perfect !!!...

but its already very nice....

hmmm...that's an interesting idea....veneer the XArcade Stick. I didn't think of that. I was considering taking the parts out....but that would be much easier....hmmm...great suggestion.

The "speaker" grills are actually PC Mod fan grills I got at CompUSA. They're only $4.95 each (they are the CompUSA brand) and they have about 4 different styles....Dragon, Alien, Thunderbolt and something I can't remember.

Man - that looks sweet.  ;D

But I'd definately look at losing the X-arcade CP as the next project. It really stands out like a sore thumb.

For anyone who liked the fan grills, I've seen similar ones at www.adpmods.com. I haven't ever bought from them so can't comment on their service, but they do have some really neat stuff.

How is the PC in there? It looks like that monitor took up about 99% of the space!

Actually there's about 8" of empty space under the monitor. I had to build a shelf to raise the monitor high enought to match up w/the bezel.

Technically I could have done one of two things....put the PC in the bottom whole-- in it's case-- (but it would be a nightmare to get to in the event of a problem); or take it apart and mount the innards in the bottom.

Well...I'm not a handy as I would like and was afraid to risk my new PC so I've connected it to the cab through sort of an umbilical cord that runs to the external PC. This allows for easy access and keeps both the monitor and PC cool as they're not sharing space in the cab. Here's a pic.

While it's definitely not an "elegant" solution, I have the PC up against a wall, so it's really not visible in actual use.

The MameMaster!

Umbilical cord.   Not a bad idea.  Looks good but I'd also build control panels to match.  Take care.
