9200 resolution question
« on: October 09, 2003, 01:18:33 am »
Okay, perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but I want to check this with you guys before doing anything else.

I have the Wells-Gardner D9200 utility from Ultimarc, as well as Quickres. Does this mean that it's possible to run the D9200 in 800x600 without completely frying it? The description on Ultimarc's site seems to indicate this, but I really don't want to chance it if there's any danger to my baby.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Eric

P.S. - in an only marginally related manner, I've read that the D9200 has a built-in degaussing feature. Does anyone know how to trigger that?

Technically you can run it at 800x600, but it is interlaced (and looks like crap IMHO).

You can degauss your monitor by just pressing the Select key on your monitor control pad (at least I believe its the select key).

huh?  Your settings must be screwed up because mine isn't interlaced and looks absolutely gorgeous at 800x600.

Really?  Are you using ArcadeVGA?  I can't get it to look decent at all.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong.  640x480 is gorgeous though.

I'm actually seen some other posts, mostly centering around the occasional D9200 mechanical failure, that presented a strong possibility that running the D9200 in 800x600 can seriously shorten its lifespan. Does the Arcade VGA make it safer, or was I reading too much into these posts?

If you have the D9200 AND the arcadeVGA, you need to download the utility off of ultimarc's website that allows for non-interlaced resolutions.  Actually I'm surprised Andy hasn't replied to this - it's a great quick fix.

Also as to the monitor being damaged at 800x600 - who knows.  Some people have had great luck, like myself - I've built 2 cabs with D9200s and they both still work perfectly at 800x600 - tha'ts the frontend resolution so it's on that quite a bit. Some people have had no luck at all, though - so I'm guessing it depends on the monitor itself.

This is actually what I have.  Still doesn't work real well using the Quickres.  800x600 is very jittery.  Probably an H/V Hold problem or something.  Doesn't much matter, I never use 800x600 anyway.
