Need to create a LITTLE more room . . .
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:32:55 pm »
Okay so I ordered a kit and the CNC cuts seem to have been a little faulty.  I am about 2mm too small all the way around on my trackball recess.  The entire reason I ordered a kit was to avoid this, because I have no skills and no tools--well, almost no tools.  I do have a Dremel rotary tool.

Think this is something I can pull off myself without destroying anything?

Here's a couple pictures--one of the trackball not fitting, and one of the recess as it stands currently.  Because I'm going to be using a plate, it doesn't need to be pretty, just fit.

Edit: Added a picture of the other side too to give a more complete picture.

I don't have any suggestions but I have to say that those are the ugliest CNC cuts ever... ever!  You should seriously look at getting your money back!  You should let us know who did this for you so we can be sure to stay far away!

Are you referring to the front side?  Well, and I guess the view from the back side too?  It seems like the CNC machine was just not having a good day, because the reason why it looks so bad is that I had to route out more space for the mounting plate to fit as well.  It's going to be covered with Lexan so I'm not concerned that I made it look bad.  Oddly, I encountered that problem with everything that had a recess, and I used a little hand router with the sandpaper attachment to clear out enough room for everything.  It's just that in the case of this underside deal, I need to do it really evenly--if not terribly cleanly--or else the trackball will be crooked or not fit all the way or whatever.  Or, worse, I blow through to the other side, and then I'm ruined.

Before I had my router I used a dremel and I could pretty much do everything, I just had to be patient.  It will take longer but you can do it.  I'll also agree with Unstupid that those cuts sure look messy.

Those don't even look like CNC cuts to me.  Honestly, complain to whomever you purchased from and get your money back or get them to fix it on their dime.

Yeah that's pretty rough.  Is it someone with a hobby/home built machine?  Is it someone on this board?  If so, PM me who it was, if you don't wanna call them out on the forums...   :lol

If you don't want to mess with trying to get them to redo it, and you're really just off like 2mm, you could probably do it with a little palm sander if you wanted.

Dremel worked perfectly.  By perfectly I mean I am terrible and it is completely ugly, lol.  But it now fits, and of course, everything will be under the lexan, thank goodness.

This is not even looking like CNC cuts; Thank god I didn’t do that.
