I've been reading and reading and going in circles  ???

My other cabs I used the WG D9200, which I guess hasn't been made for awhile.  I should have stocked up lol.  The newer Makvision/Weiya 29" doesn't go to 15khz so although it's close, it still doesn't really look like arcade monitor, right?  I haven't really seen any pics of what, say galaga or pacman, look like on it, so I can't really rule it out for sure.

I started thinking I'd want LCD for space consideration but I've heard bad things with 'screen-tearing' and response time.  And of course MAME doesn't really look like the cabs of yore on LCD.  Also I have read that LED LCD's are even worse for some reason...?

Xgaming seems to offer a few arcade-specific monitors...anyone have experience with their WG9000 26" LCD? This is probabably a stupid question...but I see it hits 15khz in CGA mode...could I hook it up to a PC as an arcade monitor in 15khz mode and to an Xbox as a monitor in VGA mode and just switch between the two?

Its a tough call but the trend nowadays seems to be to go with an LCD.
I have a 27 multisync CRT in my cab and I hope it never dies but if it did die (of course first I will repair it) and I had to get a new monitor, I think I'd go with an LCD.
I've played some mame from my laptop on my 32" lcd and its not bad. I definitely like how vectors look on an LCD.

Thanks  mgb - I definitely like the space saving of an LCD

I couldn't figure out from this post http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,112462.0.html  if this monitor was a good solution overall or not.   Does anyone have any experience with this one?

I wish I had stocked up on D9200 monitors as well.  You should also consider using a TV if you only need 15khz resolutions.  You can get a high end Sony SD CRT TV dirt cheap through Craigslist. You can output arcade resolutions using Soft15khz, PowerStrip and an RGB to component transcoder.  The complex configuration is the only downside to this solution, but the results are just like an arcade monitor. I just set this up and I think it looks better than the monitor in my New Astro City.  Check out this thread for details:

The game should be considered, A shooter is better off with a crt, The bezel needs to be considered, The missing curve can look
funny, The veiwing angle doesnt go over so good in a tabletop....Those considered, Lcd"s consume less energy ,Less weight, thinner,
and look awsome when done right.
