MAME 0.74 upgrade?
« on: October 08, 2003, 04:34:41 pm »
I currently have Mame 0.62 running nicely on all my machines, but was thinking of updating it to 0.74.  Of course, this will mean a lot of fiddling getting things back the way I like them.

I browsed Mame.net upgrade notes, but got sick of reading them.  Anybody have any opinions on whether I should bother upgrading (great games I might be missing/horrible experiences/etc).

Thanks!

There are a few games missing and a bunch of non-working games added.

Take a look and see if you care about any of the new games that have been recently added.  Beatmania might be for you.

I'm using mame32 ver. 0.66 and i'm pretty satisfied with the emulator and also the games emulated in it! Well, i'm trying to see if i can get the advancemame 0.74 and advancemenu running properlly but i can't configure that right, maybe i'm just dumb! :P

I'm with the "yes" to a upgrade! :)

I just upgraded from .65 to .72--not much of a change for me--no new games that I cared about were added and all the ones I like were working--I'm just one of those people who upgrade because they like breaking whats not broke  ;D--if you're not like that--don't bother!
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I pretty much upgrade as they come out (I'm up to .73, I don't want to lose the games with .74).

Its doesn't overwrite the config file, so your settings should remain the same.

Lilwolf has the right idea, I have been using .59 since it came out and have been just fine with it, haven't been interested in the new games and everything I like to play works great.  Plus each new version seem sto get slower with all the new drivers they add so it makes no sense to move up and have a slowdown, plus replace roms, etc., for things you don't care about.

I have to add one thing.

If you want to have all the roms... And you have newsgroups... Then you want to update EVERY version.

Why?

New version... And you can download all the new roms nice and easy.

But you miss an update... And it can take weeks to find one file.

But that is only if you care about all the files.

I haven't played a single game for the last few versions... other then just to see them quickly and make a screenshot..
