1st timer could use some comments/suggestions on CPO
« on: August 22, 2012, 07:41:06 pm »
This is my first time drawing a CPO.  I am going for a simple look.  Is there any essential buttons missing?  Color scheme ugly?  Any comments will be appreciated.

The art looks OK but you might want to play around with some other designs. I would also suggest adding a texture to the background to make it look a little more professional. As far as the buttons I would suggest grouping the player1 start with the player 1up on the left top of the CP and the player 2start and 1up on the right top (sort of above the controls for those players. Then I would place the esc, enter, pause buttons in the middle. I would also add one more button to that group like a tab button for emulator control. Not sure if your not wanting a trackball but that would be something to consider as well.

Thanks for that input.  I've added a Tab button and changed the location of the buttons as suggested.  Trying some different backgrounds too.  This whole process is tougher than I thought.

Is this panel going to hinge off of a box below it?  If so, be sure to check the clearances of the box and your controls.  Nothing worse than finishing a panel and then having a part run into a piece of plywood when the panel is closed.

+1
It looks like the top row should be moved down a bit more.
Also the 1st player joystick needs more space for the base. Not sure which joysticks you're using but the Happ base is pretty wide. Overall I really like the art.

Good call on the top row buttons!  I completely overlooked that.   That would have been a HUGE mistake. :D  I found the measurements for the joystick online and scaled the joystick overlay accordingly.  I will double check once my parts get here.  I just got to remember to send final grafix without the buttons when sending to print.

Also, take into account how far the wires will hang off the joustick when you plug in the quick connect.  That can add an inch to the footpint of the joystick.  Or you can bend terminals as you see fit.
