Help With Gauntlet Legends1.2
« on: August 22, 2012, 06:46:24 pm »
Hey all i know what your all thinking OMG not another one of these topics!!!!

I am having alot of trouble getting Gauntlet legends 1.2 to run, i have no issues with 1.6

The reason i want 1.2 running is because i hear it emulates much smoother then its later version from the limited information that is out on the web.

I know everyone is going to say you need one hell of a system to run this, well i check that box :) this was purpose built to run these games.

I am currently running the latest version of Mame 64bit.

How can i get this up and running.

I run the 1.6 version at about 98-100% all the way through the first world and into the next with the smallest amount of lag here and there.

My system specs are.

WGk7000 Arcade Monitor in 2 player Tallboy 8 buttons each

Asus rampage formula x48
Intel Xenon E3120 @4.4ghz
HyperX Ram DDR2 1066 4 gb  (other 4 gig is on bench atm will go in soon)
Arcade VGA3000
Corsair PSU
2TB HDD

I have attached a small video of gameplay sorry about the quality and my skills was hard to do one handed while holding my daughter
I can clock the system higher but if i can get away with a more stable version and clock my CPU down that would be much better for overall life of my machine!

Can you elaborate a little on "emulates much smoother"?  From my definition 1.6 emulates smoother because you can run it at around 100% and you can't 1.2.  ;)

Typically the latest version of a game is the "best" version unless there are some well documented  bugs or something.

Sorry i am new to all of this,

Here is a Qoute taken from the below post (thread)     http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=72776.480

I did - it didn't make a difference. Gauntlet Legends actually plays perfectly. The problem was that I was using version 1.6, which has known crashing issues (see mamedev.org) but 1.2 works perfectly. No stutters, no speed issues, no sound issues.

Later this week I'm going to try and play through the whole game with a friend so I can be sure that multiplayer will work without issues.

From my reading it appears that 1.2 is the way to go

I can run 1.6 however 1.2 doesnt load at all.

I get a blue screen saying loading for 1sec then it exits.

It sounds like there is a nvram issue.  Check the MAME faq over at mame.net and see if it has an entry for GL.
