  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey everyone, Lymeguy here.  I have Lyme disease and I'm sick, so I'm trying to make use of my time as I'm homebound.

I am new to all of this, but I build PC's for people, so I figure I can do this.  Just a few questions and would appreciate all responses.  I'm making this for my kids and I have a Ms. Pacman Cabinet.

I plan on using an LCD VGA monitor, so I want to know what is the best size to use and I have read that Widescreen is no good, so how do you know which way the Games will be on the screen.  i.e. If the Screen is 14" x 12", is there a way to make the Game switch to Horizontal if you want it to be going in the 14" direction but it's going in the 12" direction ?

Ok, so question #2.  Will an ATX Power supply work instead of the Arcade type power supplies ?

#3, I've searched youtube, but I can't find a video showing how to put all of this together.  I know you plug stuff together, but like mounting the LCD screen, I have no idea how to do this.  Is there a video around that anyone is aware of ?

Lastly, Assuming this turns out good, I think I would like to buy some empty cabinets and make a few for sale where I live.  Can anyone tell me the best place where I can get the 60 in 1 boards, Joysticks, Buttons, etc.  Is there one website that has all of this and the best prices of course.

Sorry to ask so much, but they are probably simple answers for some of you.  If anyone who knows this stuff could spare a few minutes on the phone, can you sent me a PM with a phone number so I can get some further guidance.

Much appreciated everyone,

Gary

Welcome!

Since they are technically illegal, the rules prohibit folks from telling you where to get a 60-in-1 board. The forums over at KLOV have no such rules.

All games on the 60-in-1 present vertically, so you'll just want to mount your LCD sideways.

The first thing you will want to do is wire the cabinet up to the JAMMA standard (some good reading in the link). Be sure to wire up the TEST and SERVICE buttons as they will make life much easier when configuring the 60-in-1.

I'm sure folks will chime in with their favourite vendors, but you can also scroll through the Vendors list in the wiki.

You can use this adaptor from jammaboards.com in order to convert the cabs wiring to the jamma standard.
Of course with a Ms Pacman, you will want to add buttons, so you will have to drill the cp for those.
You will also have to get a basic arcade power supply as the Ms Pacman psu won't work for this.

Heres the adaptor:
