Pitfall! for iOS
« on: August 19, 2012, 09:53:17 pm »
A modern take on Pitfall! was just released by Activision for the iPhone and iPad.

Really fun and worth the buck.

I played Pitfall! on my Intellivision last week and my kids thought I was nuts to play that.   :laugh2:

I seem to recall that Pitfall was hard to play on the Intellivision.  That and Donkey Kong.  I loved that controller but it seems like it made.those games harder.  Maybe it was just me.

Ironically, I played Donkey Kong also had made it 5 or 6 levels without getting killed.  That's pretty good for me.

Had a couple of good games on Lock N Chase and then gave the controller to my 4 year old twins.  They had a blast even if it was a little hard to watch them.   ;D

B-17 Bomber and Bomb Squad was awesome too.  My mom loved Shark Shark.  Advanced D&D was a great play.  There were so many good games on Intellivision.  Use to love to play SNAFU just for the music.  I need to break mine out and play again.

Out of all of them though, I was the king of the house in triple action - bi plane.  No one wanted to play me in that after awhile, so I just flew around killing myself a lot.

The only problem with some of the games were that it took two players and once someone got really good at a game, others wouldn't play.  Loved Triple Action.  And Baseball.  Anyone who was good at Intellivision was great at Baseball.  Sea Battle was always a fun one too.

Yeah, even Baseball fell into that 2 player required thing.  World Series Baseball I think it was called had AI with level of AI select.  My world was blessed when I no longer depended on other people to play some baseball.

Auto Racing and Skiing was some other fun ones.  I lost Auto Racing at some point though.  Still pisses me off.  Beauty and the Beast was crazy fun.  OMG, I forgot about Dragonfire.  I could play some dragonfire....  Atlantis was another goodie.  My sister always like frog frog, I think it was called.  Two frogs jumping from lily pads eating insects, she would get made when I turned off auto jump and she always landed in the water.  HA HA.  So many good memories playing intellivision.

Don't recall Dragonfire.  I did have Swords and Serpents which took two players to win.  I never did play Atlantis or Utopia sadly.  I'll need to try those through Nostalgia when I can.  Loved Skiing.  Remember when you knew the pattern on the slalom course and could do it without thinking?  I remember breaking 38 seconds or whatever a great time was.

Football and basketball were both fun.  Typing in the codes for football....

Frog Bog.  Have it still.  Intellivision was a family Christmas present when it first came out.  Favorite gift ever.

Yeah frog bog, still got that one too.

dragonfire was the one where you had to run across the bridge dodging fire coming from the castle and arrows from a guard in the tower. I think that is where Nintendo stole the idea for Bowser shooting fire from across a bridge for the first super mario.  After the bridge, you had to run around a room getting treasure while a dragon was shooting fire at you from the bottom.

night stalker was another classic, boxing, tennis, astrosmash

There is this other one I can't remember that reminded me of Star Wars trench runs and you had to bomb these ships that came across the bottom before the took off and blew up earth.  Can't remember the name.  Space Armada maybe?

Space Spartans was also fun.  I use to love to say it like it did,  "SPACE SPARTANS!"  LOL

Hmmm.  Haven't seen Dragonfire.  Time to check it out.  Night Stalker is in my normal rotation of games to play.  Space Battle, Astrosmash and Space Armada are all favorites.

You're thinking of Star Strike.  Remember the alternating light and dark green rectangles or polygons that would change colors to make it appear like you were moving in the trench?

We had a lot of the same cartridges.  I only see one D&D game I think.  Did you have Treasure of Tarmin also?

I actually just bought an Intellivison (II model) with 40 games, computer module and voice synthesizer for $25 off of Craigslist. I'm just starting to get used to the disc controller (I grew up with Colecovision) but I'm having fun with it.  Pitfall was pretty good and despite my aforementioned controller issues, I was able to do fairly well. Burgertime was a bit weird (the mazes were nothing like the arcade). Hopefully this week I can try out the rest.

I can't remember what # level in Burgertime but it kicks my butt every time. I can go in with 5 or 6 guys and never beat it.  Very frustrating.

I prefer the original to the II because of the keypad.  The raised buttons on the original v. the membrane feel on the II just feels better and its much easier (IMO) to use without looking at the keys.  I guess it's what people are used to though.  Chad is actually selling a II in B/S/T that I am trying to resist purchasing.

Its worth getting.  I dont  have an extra or I'd send it to you.  It tries to be 3D, has multiple levels and is more in depth than the first one.  It's a favorite of mine.

When I brought it home, the controllers felt like they were broken.  The buttons didn't move when I pressed them.  But nope, all fine. Not used to the membrane keypad at all. I also heard the II had some compatibility problems with Coleco games (don't have any to try.)  All the same, if I see the original Intellivision for a reasonable price, I'll pick that one up and put the II on the shelf.
