Monitor difficulties

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie, overly anxious to get a mame machine going and wanted a cabinet to work with before I try building my own.  Picked up this MK/Tekken 2 cabinet, monitor works, but not in fantastic shape.  I've got an arcadevga 3000 in my mame pc, but I can't get it working on the arcade monitor.  I had similar bad luck with two SD tv's.  I've tried every resolution in quickres, as well as messing with all the settings in catalyst.   The only thing I've had success with is a couple of HD crt TV's, using a vga-component transcoder.  Just wanting to see if anyone had suggestions.  I'm frustrated enough that I'm about to toss the arcade monitor and replace it with one of the tv's.

There's no reason why the AVGA shouldn't work with your arcade monitor. What are the problems?

The AVGA 3000 doesn't even offer support for regular televisions, according to Ultimarcs own website. I tried plugging in a TV to the S-video plug on mine and got no picture. But it works fine plugged in through VGA.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm getting nothing but horizontal lines.  I've got it hooked up with one of these.  http://na.suzohapp.com/monitors/49321100.htm  According to the diagram on my monitor it is only r,g,b, ground and the negative h-sync that is hooked up.  I assumed it was the far right h-sync on the happ board.  I tried the SD tv's (component) through the transcoder also, my understanding was that they would work at low resolutions, but no go.  I've set the arcadevga to "standard arcade monitor" in the setup.  Oh, and with the arcade monitor, I noticed that the pc can't detect the display.  Didn't know if that was normal.
