I don't know what to think about this one. It's a bit avante garde. The characters seem stand-offish and disconeccted (which admittedly is probably the intention since we are dealing with immensely rich and bored people), and the script too slick and 'poetic'. Or summink...
Director is David Cronenberg, who is a bit up and down with me.
I'm not a very deep person but I suppose it's all about the vacuousness of the pursuit of the physical. Or it's about self-destruction. Or summink. What did grab me is the way it felt like a sci-fi, even though it's billed as a drama and in fact there isn't any of the normal trappings of sci-fi other than some wacky looking guns here and there. It's Wall Street, Strange Days and Citizen Kane all rolled into one. But each one of those movies is much better of course.
Most of you would find it a challenge not to walk out, as a couple of people did at the screening I was at. The first 30 minutes really wasn't compelling. But I stayed curious.
None-the-less, I have to give it points for being strange and not having a Hollywood ending. And for making me leave the cinema thinking I should throw away all the trappings of my trivial pursuits I have and just keep my Go set. Strange...
