Bluring in Bottom left hand corner
« on: August 02, 2012, 07:36:53 pm »
Hey Everyone.

before recapping this was way more noticeable i also had it in top right and top left corners along with an overall dull image.

Just wondering what could be causing it?
I know its a little picky of me but was hoping the cap would fix it hahaha.

I have not yet used a degaussing coil as i am still in the process of making one, i ripped a massive one out of a tv and will hook it up hopefully later on in the week.

I have attached pictures, also i duno much the monitors are my colors tuned correctly?

Thanks guys this is my new hobby and loving every minute of it!!!

Looks like it just probably needs degaussed.

Also, unless your camera is playing tricks on the overall presentation, your brightness is set way too high.  Turn it down until the bottom two levels of the white/gray bar are completely black (indistinguishably from each other and from the unimaged area of the tube).

Hey All,

Finished putting to gether and sure enough fixed the blur!.

Also adjusted the brightness and contrast an looks amazing.

However i have noticed if i turn the brightness right down i notice some red lines.

Anyways making the coil is easy, pull it out of a monitor dishcharge it first, run an inline switch with the active make sure.

google a diy i am sure they out there.

It still looks to me like the brightness is up too high in your picture of the NBA Jam screen, but it may be camera effects.  In general, black (and unimaged areas of the tube) should be essentially the same as the black surround of the tube, or as close as you can reasonably get without making things noticeably wrong.  Again, the typical metric I use is to make the bottom couple bars on the ramp pattern (or about the bottom 10% on a continuous ramp) identically black.

If you post a picture of that same color ramp showing the "red lines", I can probably tell you what control to adjust.

You're looking pretty good.  Go ahead and turn up the red and green cut-off (aka bias) controls so that the red and green bars look like the blue bar.  Those controls are usually on the neckboard.  Then re-adjust brightness to taste (keeping in mind that you're mostly adjusting how black it gets, and darker black usually looks better).

You may also want to nudge the contrast down just a hair, but it's not bad.  Tough to tell without actually seeing it.

Hey Sorry for the late reply i have been out all morning for work.

I had a good crack at tunning it, man does that make a difference i duno if i have it right but it looks good!.

I also found out what was causing the red lines across the screen.

The Brightness level on the Flyback transformer was turned up to high and when adjusting the 2nd brightness pot you would have to have it almost on the lowest setting and thatw hen the lines would appear.

Now that i turned it down at the flyback i do not see the lines when adjusting it.

I had a good play with the cutoffs and drives of each color and i think i have it right however the camera is not showing the full story so i will try to explain what i am seeing on my end,

In the picture there is another black bar below it that you can not see and however on my side you can see a little bit of red blue green etc.

It pretty much looks like exactly what you are seeing.

Let me know what ya think and i have also uploaded a gameplay image wondering if i needs a play with the focus.

Not surprising on the "red lines".  Having the screen voltage up too high often does that.  I couldn't see them in your pictures, so I wasn't sure.

It doesn't really look out of focus to me.  You can certainly tweak that focus control a little and see if you can dial it in any better.  It's pretty touchy, though, so don't go crazy.  The picture looks pretty good, actually.

 ;D

Thanks very much for your guidance MonMotha,

Its one of those things if you have not played with it you just will never know.  I think it looks pretty right.
However i did have a thought.

I might installed a client on it and replicate the picture to a LCD tv, and the bars should show what the colors should be.

Then i might lay them side by side until it is absolutely perfect muahahahaha.

However i must admit it is def worth recapping a monitor when you do a restoration project.
