UPDATE:
Full page here:
http://www.control-click.com/mame/

OK, I have finally done it.  Building the panel was a total pain, but I'm happy with the results...  I'm surprised I could actually get this done.  Check it out.

Beautiful cabinet. Thanks to the increasing wealth of real arcade cabinet dimensions being spread around the community it's great to see cabinets that look like the real thing. Yours and the full-sized robotron mini that was posted a few days ago are two of the best copies I have seen.

Well, this *is* the real thing.   It was an original Centipede cabinet, shamelessly converted to a Double Dragon.

Are those Wico sticks? And what kind of trackball is that? It looks like it is over 50 percent above the panel.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

The stickas are Ultimar's J-Sticks  (Sanwa).
The Trackball is actually a hacked PC Kensington Trackball. It is about 40% over the panel.

I love them.  Great for Robotron gameplay!   The use microswitches, so they do click, much like any other non-leafswitch joystick out there.

The 4-way mode of the J-Stick is also great, although kind of hard to reach.  I wish someone thought of a design that would be switched by simply pulling the stick real hard, and twisting.  Hrmm... there's an idea.

Are you familiar enough with pac joysticks or the pac/galaga repros to make a comparison? It would save me a few bucks to go with a j-stick and make a few more games playable with the 8 way, plus I like the way it looks more than the pac/galaga.

Sorry, I am not familiar with these.   But there are several serious in-depth reviews of the J-Stick 9and other joys) in this site.  Do a quick search, I'm sure you'll find them.  That is what I did before purchasing.

You are the first one putting a big panel in a classic and still make it look really good! :D

Anyone remember the a****** who cut the wings of the Dig Dug to fit a big panel ???

Excellent cabinet.   I like that control panel.  The vinyl makes it look slick.

There is a Centipede style cabinet at the local ice rink that has nearly the exact same control panel design and I like it a lot.

What 24' TV did you use and does it have S-Video?  I have the same cabnet for my mame machine. (Dig Dug that was badly converted to Rush in Attach)  I currently only have a 20' TV (composite) and I want to upgrade.

Your control panel looks great.

Your control panel looks great.

I bought an APEX GT2415 for $179.  The quality is probably only a 6/10, but it does the job fine, and is the biggest TV you will find for the cab, period.  It is HUGE, and is a PERFECT fit.  (quite unbelievable really... made to fit)

It is very hard to find this model now, because APEX has since replaced it with a newer 24" that has speakers on the side. (and is much wider)

This is the model I bought.  It is 23.5" wide (cab is 23.75" wide internally)

It wasn't easy!   There are two methods.  One involves water and a squeege, the other method is this one:
http://www.69zl1.com/missilecommand.html
...which is the one I followed.  It requires 2 people.  NEVER attempt this alone!

I recently got a centipede cabinet (converted to a Growl).  I was all set on restoring it, and then I stumbledon Justin's project.  Then I decided "I'm not restoring my cab, I'll just build one from scratch like Justin!, it lookes so much better!"

Fast forward about 3 days.

There I am looking at the pictures again on your website and low and behold: this *is* a restoration.   :o

You have inspired me to resore mine.  I suspect that I may be asking you a few questions along the way!

Fantastic job!

Hey peanut, feel free to ask questions.  Another member is also restoring a Centipede cab, and we've shared a few emails with tips etc.

The bezel was made available a qhile back, but the site where it was hosted (mametrixreloaded) is down.  I can send it to you, just send me a PM.
